LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Secret Circle entered Friday’s inaugural $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint as the 2-5 favorite. More important, he exited it a winner with the potential to become one of the favorites for next year’s Kentucky Derby.

Busting out of the gate under regular rider Rafael Bejarano, Secret Circle ran the other speed into submission and had enough left in the stretch to score a one-length victory over late-running British invader Shumoos.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Late-running Mister Marti Gras is a top-class horse when he gets a hot pace to aid his rally. And as he proved in winning Friday’s Grade 3, $109,700 Ack Ack Handicap on the Breeders’ Cup undercard at Churchill Downs, he is apparently just as good even when he doesn’t.

Despite dawdling early fractions set in the 1 1/16-mile Ack Ack set by favored Gladding, Mister Mardi Gras was able to close to victory from sixth down the middle of the track, edging Alma d’Oro and Glenwood Canyon in a tight finish.

Hollywood Park purses will increase from last fall

ARCADIA, Calif. – Overnight purses at the upcoming Hollywood Park fall meeting are set to rise compared to the corresponding meeting last year, but will be lower than prize money at the track’s spring-summer meeting earlier this year.

The fall meeting begins Thursday and continues through Dec. 18.

Overnight purses have been hiked across the board, with claiming horses the beneficiary of the most substantial increases. For example, a $32,000 claiming race for fillies and mares over a mile on turf will be worth $34,000, $8,000 more than last fall.

Breeders' Cup: Shared Account still on for Filly and Mare Turf

Shared Account, a 5-year-old mare trained by Graham Motion, is still scheduled to run in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Churchill Downs on Friday, even though she was erroneously listed as scratched from the race early in the afternoon by Equibase, which collects and distributes the racing industry's data.

The scratch was corrected at 1:47 p.m. Eastern, 20 minutes after it was first announced, according to Equibase's scratch sheet for Churchill. Post time for the Filly and Mare Turf, the ninth of 10 races on Churchill's Friday card, is scheduled for 6:50 p.m. Eastern.
