Belmont Park: Boisterous takes Fort Marcy

Adam Coglianese/NYRA
Boisterous, with Alan Garcia riding, wins the Fort Marcy on Belmont's yielding turf.

Borrowing a page from Winter Memories in the Beaugay an hour or so earlier, Boisterous ($4.60) muscled his way clear while angling out for room nearing the stretch, and outkicked European import Desert Blanc to win Saturday's Grade 3, $150,000 Fort Marcy Stakes by a length under Alan Garcia.

"It was a slow pace," said Garcia, who is now 2 for 2 on the Phipps Stable homebred. "I know my horse can run the last part, so I wanted to be patient. I was waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting, and turning for home I let him run and he did really well."

Michael Burns
Beeker Street, under Patrick Husbands, holds off Making Amends to win the Queenston Stakes.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Beeker Street got hammered late in the wagering and then justified that backing with a front-running score in the $150,000 Queenston Stakes on Saturday at Woodbine.

Beeker Street set a sleepy pace on the outside in the seven-furlong event, while being pressed by Run in Aruba and Menlo Castle. He opened up a daylight lead in the stretch and then held off the wide-closing Making Amends to win by a head in 1:23.23. Chicago shipper Fastestwhogetspaid checked in third in the eight-horse field of Ontario-bred 3-year-olds.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With approximately three furlongs remaining in the $441,600 Churchill Downs Stakes, reigning sprint champion Amazombie and Preakness champion Shackleford were on even terms.

For Amazombie, the question was how he would handle the seven-furlong distance. For Shackleford, the question was whether he could end a seven-race losing streak dating back 50 weeks.
