Krash Cartel, who was the fastest qualifier for last month’s Ruidoso Futurity for Quarter Horses, is back for the Rainbow Futurity trials Tuesday at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico. He will run in the 17th race, which is one of 23 trials for the Rainbow. The Grade 1, $700,000 finale will be run July 22, a day later than originally scheduled after the New Mexico Racing Commission recently granted the change at the request of Ruidoso Downs.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Apprentice jockey Gerardo Mora has emerged as one of the most promising young riders in Texas over the first half of the year. He finished second in the Sam Houston Race Park standings in March, and with a week remaining in the Lone Star Park meet ranks seventh in the standings and first among apprentices.

Mora has won 22 of 224 starts at the meet and can add to his win total during a special Tuesday night card at Lone Star when he rides six of the nine races on the program. First post is 5 p.m. Central, with a Pat Green concert to follow the races.

A pair of Kentucky-based horses with a proven affinity for the turf course at Mountaineer look imposing in pre-holiday races that launch the West Virginia track’s stakes schedule Tuesday evening.

Revelstoke, runner-up in two stakes locally last season, figures to go favored in the $75,000 Firecracker for fillies and mares going a mile (race 3). One race later, Strike Impact, who barely missed in his lone Mountaineer stakes appearance last August, is the logical choice among eight older male horses in the $75,000, one-mile Independence Day.

AUBURN, Wash. – Frenzo headlines the feature race Tuesday at Emerald Downs, a $25,000 claiming sprint for horses who have never won twice, but the big show comes after the races, when Emerald presents its annual fireworks spectacular. The first race is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Pacific, with the rockets set to launch about 30 minutes after the 10th and final race.

SHAKOPEE, Minn. – A pair of $50,000 turf stakes – the Blair’s Cove and HBPA Mile – are scheduled to be contested on a rare Tuesday race card at Canterbury Park.

In the 1 1/16-mile Blair’s Cove Stakes for Minnesota-breds, the 2011 Canterbury horse of the year Tubby Time will be looking to get back in the win column in a field of eight.

Trainer Tony Dutrow has been picky about where he runs his Grade 1-placed filly Pinch Pie this season. Since mid-May, Pinch Pie was entered and scratched from graded stakes three times, most recently in Saturday’s Grade 3 Eatontown Handicap at Monmouth Park, where she was the 7-2 second choice on the track’s morning line.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Empire Way has always had a tough act to follow with the success of stablemate Creative Cause, a three-time stakes winner who was third in the Preakness Stakes in May.

Empire Way has yet to win a stakes, but was second to Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner I’ll Have Another in the Grade 2 Robert Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita back in February. That race was the last time that Empire Way finished in the top three. In three subsequent races, he has finished ninth, fourth, and ninth.

The nine-race Canada Day card begins at 1:50 p.m. Pacific, and the Taylor-Todd team has the top two choices entered in both stakes – the $50,000 Chris Loseth for 3-year-olds and the $50,000 Lieutenant Governors’ for 3-year-olds and up. Both races will be contested around three turns at 1 1/16 miles.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Pool Play, dropping from a Grade 1 stakes into an overnight stakes for Ontario-breds, is the class of Monday’s Ontario Jockey Club at seven furlongs on the turf course. The kicker is that Pool Play has not started since that Grade 1 success, which came in the 1 1/8-mile Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs on June 18, 2011.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Incredicat will spar with Jenna’s Wabbit in what should be a spirited matchup over six furlongs on a holiday Monday at Woodbine in the $150,000 Achievement Stakes.

Incredicat was on the Queen’s Plate trail in the spring, during which he went coast to coast in the 1 1/16-mile Wando Stakes on April 21. He went on to finish a fading sixth behind eventual Plate winner Strait of Dover in the 1 1/16-mile Marine Stakes.
