INGLEWOOD, Calif. – With his trainer watching from a nearby hospital room, the ex-claimer Camp Victory won the biggest race of his career in Saturday’s $250,000 Triple Bend Handicap at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Trainer Mike Mitchell underwent surgery Friday to have a tumor removed from his brain. He is expected to be hospitalized until early in the week. His assistant trainer, Phil D’Amato, said that Mitchell and his wife Denise were watching the Hollywood Park races Saturday via computer from the hospital.

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Silver Screamer took a major step forward on Saturday, capturing the Grade 3, $105,000 Eatontown Stakes at Monmouth Park in her stakes debut.

A 4-year-old filly trained by Rudy Rodriguez, Silver Screamer had been on a roll in New York with three wins and a second in five starts since being claimed for $20,000 last summer at Saratoga.

The Eatontown on the turf was Silver Screamer’s stakes coming-out party and the gray put on a show.

MIAMI  - The team of trainer Kathleen O’Connell and owner-breeder Gil Campbell have been among the leading players in the local 2-year-old division seemingly forever. On Saturday, they added another stakes trophy to their already well-stocked mantelpieces after the homebred Two T’s At Two B cruised to an easy 5 1/4-length victory in the $100,000 Frank Gomez Memorial at Calder.

ELMONT, N.Y. – Gutsy stakes wins by Michael Matz-trained 3-year-olds are becoming routine around here, after Teeth of the Dog ($4) came again for a hard-fought decision over Fast Falcon in Saturday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Dwyer Stakes.

Coming off a win in the Easy Goer Stakes a few hours before his more-heralded stablemate Union Rags won the Belmont Stakes, Teeth of the Dog was in front early in the Dwyer under Joel Rosario, but acquiesced as Morgan’s Guerrilla was hustled up along the rail down the backstretch to grab the lead.

ELMONT, N.Y. – Mystical Star, who was disqualified from third in a tough-trip Sheepshead Bay five weeks ago, enjoyed smoother sailing en route to her first career stakes victory in Saturday’s Grade 2, $200,000 New York Stakes.

Mystical Star, a Ghostzapper filly who has been vastly improved in three starts as a 4-year-old for Christophe Clement, broke through the barrier an instant before the gates opened in the Sheepshead Bay and fell back nearly 20 lengths off the lead before rallying to finish third behind Aruna and Hit It Rich in the Sheepshead Bay.

Halo Dolly ($3) gave her Hall of Fame connections, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer and jockey Russell Baze, an easy stakes win as she romped to a wire-to-wire victory in the $60,950 Alameda County Fillies & Mares Stakes at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton, Calif., on Saturday.

Sundae On Sunday erased a 3 1/2-length deficit in the final furlong to win Saturday’s $50,000 Ontario County for New York-bred 3-year-olds at Finger Lakes.

Ridden by Dennis Carr for trainer Michael Ferraro, Sundae On Sunday ($3.50) was fifth after a half-mile in 44.81 seconds and had moved up to only fourth, 3 1/2 lengths in back of El Grande Patron, at the eighth pole. Despite drifting in while rallying, Sundae On Sunday proved best by 2 1/4 lengths while completing the six furlongs in 1:12.18.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Favored Uncaptured ($4.60) came from off sizzling fractions to land his stakes debut Saturday at Woodbine in the $150,000 Clarendon Stakes.

With the wind at his back, Saratoga shipper Jocosity set splits of 21.35 and 44.23 in the 5 1/2-furlong dash for Ontario-bred 2-year-olds. Uncaptured rallied three wide from third on the turn and caught Jocosity at the eighth pole before pulling away to prevail by 5 1/2 lengths in 1:03.05. 

Withgreatpleasure will try to make it two straight wins Tuesday evening in the $100,000 Windward at Presque Isle Downs. The Windward is for fillies and mares at one mile on the Tapeta main track.

Trained by David Nunn, Withgreatpleasure won her first race of the year in January at Parx Racing, but was disqualified for ducking in and bumping a rival. After a five-month layoff, the 4 year-old Withgreatpleasure won an optional claiming event at Belmont Park on June 20 going 6 1/2 furlongs.

Nunn was leery about running his charge back in only 13 days.
