Carry Back winner Fort Loudon (left) and runner-up Trinniberg are likely to clash again in the Aug. 25 King's Bishop at Saratoga.

MIAMI – Fort Loudon and Trinniberg put on quite a show in last Saturday’s Grade 3 Carry Back at Calder, and there’s a good chance the two locally based colts could meet again Aug. 25 at Saratoga in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop.

Delaware: Rescheduled Par Four filled with lightly raced juveniles

The cast of characters may have changed slightly after last Saturday’s $50,000 Par Four overnight stakes for 2-year-olds was redrawn and rescheduled for Thursday at Delaware Park. But it remains a hard to decipher puzzle for handicappers.

Five of the nine colts and geldings entered in Thursday’s ninth race are fresh from winning their career debuts by at least three lengths, so there are a lot of different directions a handicapper could go in trying to pick the right horse.

Indiana Downs: Golden Bear's hot pace should set up It Happened Again

Oaklawn Park/Coady Photography
Since Maggi Moss claimed him for $20,000, It Happened Again has won two stakes, including the Grade 3 Razorback.

It Happened Again heads a field of seven in the $100,000 Golden Bear, an open stakes for 3-year-olds and up going 1 1/16 miles, on Wednesday's closing night 13-race card at Indiana Downs.

The 6-year-old It Happened Again will be running for the first time for trainer Tom Amoss after coming from the barn of Chris Richard. Owned by Maggi Moss, It Happened Again finished third in the Rasmussen Memorial at Prairie Meadows two starts ago going the same distance as the Golden Bear.

Velazquez getting back on horses in morning at Saratoga

Jockey John Velazquez, sidelined since sustaining a broken collarbone in a spill at Churchill Downs on June 16, will begin getting on horses in the morning next week at Saratoga, but stopped short of saying if he would be ready to return to race-riding by the July 20 opening of the meet.

On Monday, Velazquez met with Dr. Stephen O’Brien at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, who cleared him to begin getting on horses next Monday at Saratoga.

Belmont: Royal Delta works towards Delaware Handicap

Reed Palmer Photography
Royal Delta will make her next start in the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap on July 21.

Royal Delta, who won the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis Handicap by eight lengths in her last start, worked five furlongs in 1:01.75 Monday morning over Belmont Park’s main track.

Trainer Bill Mott said that Royal Delta would most likely make her next start in the $750,000 Delaware Handicap on July 21.

“We’ve certainly been leaning in that direction all along and just monitoring her progress and well being,” Mott said. “She seems to be fine. She ran awfully big last time and we want to make sure everything’s in good order before we run, but it seems to be.”

Indiana Downs: Cozze Up Lady's tactical speed a plus in Indiana Distaff

Cozze Up Lady will be looking for her second consecutive win in the $125,000 Indiana Distaff on Wednesday’s closing night card at Indiana Downs.

The Distaff is one of two open stakes on a 13-race card that includes four stakes for Indiana-breds.

The Bret Calhoun-trained Cozze Up Lady won a one-mile turf allowance in her last out June 8 at Churchill Downs, the same surface and distance as the Distaff. Prior to that victory, she finished fourth, beaten 1 1/4 lengths going 1 1/8 miles at Churchill. Calhoun was pleased with both efforts.

Belmont: Mott may go three deep in Whitney

Shigeki Kikkawa
Despite having won the Santa Anita Handicap, Ron the Greek will at best be the third betting choice in the Stephen Foster Handicap.

ELMONT, N.Y. – If the connections of Suburban Handicap winner Mucho Macho Man continue to manage their colt as they have thus far, it would appear that he is more likely to run in the Woodward at Saratoga on Sept. 1 than the Whitney at Saratoga on Aug. 4. Both races are worth $750,000 and run at 1 1/8 miles.

Even if that turns out to be the case, the Whitney will not be lacking for quality or quantity.
