Woodbine: Double McTwist takes advantage of hot pace to win Bull Page

Double McTwist, well back early off a sizzling pace, burst between horses in early stretch and then pulled away to a commanding  8 1/2-length victory here in Monday’s $125,000 Bull Page Stakes for Ontario-sired 2-year-old colts and geldings.

Party Lad, who had won his only previous start in front-running fashion, outfooted a pair of challengers as he rattled off his first quarter in 21.73, but was beginning to weaken when he hit the half in 44.91.

ELMONT, N.Y – Trainer Chad Brown will bring a strong hand to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf next month at Santa Anita.

One day after Balance the Books earned his way into the race by winning the Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland, Noble Tune punched his ticket to the $1 million Juvenile Turf with a visually impressive 2 1/2-length score in Monday’s Grade 3, $150,000 Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont Park.

MIAMI - A couple of key late scratches changed the complexion of Saturday’s $75,000 Kenny Noe Jr. Handicap, much to the pleasure of trainer Bill White, whose Dual Exhauzt took advantage of the situation to post a wire-to-wire, 1 1/4-length victory for the first stakes win of his career.

A field of only four went postward in the 6 1/2-furlong Kenny Noe after trainer Marty Wolfson scratched the morning-line favorites, Indiano and the speedy filly Spectacular Sky.

Belmont Park: Trainer Randi Persaud fined $1,000

ELMONT, N.Y. - The stewards fined trainer Randi Persaud $1,000 for failure to tend to business in a proper manner in regard to a horse of his that was on the veterinarian’s list.

In order to get a horse off the vet’s list and make him eligible to race again, the horse has to work before a veterinarian and only on medications that he would permitted to race on.

Belmont Park: Boisterous seeks Knickerbocker repeat

ELMONT, N.Y. - Boisterous won last year’s Grade 3 Knickerbocker Stakes and will go for a repeat when that 1 1/8-mile turf race is run for the 52nd time Saturday at Belmont Park.

Boisterous, trained by Shug McGaughey for the Phipps Stable, won the Grade 3 Fort Marcy over a yielding Belmont turf in May. Since then, he was third in the Grade 1 Manhattan, second in the Grade 3 Arlington Handicap, and ninth in the Arlington Million.

Boisterous, who will be ridden by Jose Lezcano, drew post 4.

Belmont Park: Shanghai Bobby, Dreaming of Julia both confirmed for Breeders' Cup

ELMONT, N.Y. – The undefeated Shanghai Bobby, winner of the Grade 1 Champagne on Saturday at Belmont Park, will make his next start in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita on Nov. 3, his connections said Monday.

Shanghai Bobby earned a fees-paid berth into the Juvenile by virtue of his five-length victory in the Champagne – a Win and You’re In race – but afterward his connections were somewhat reluctant to commit to the race.

Calder: Csaba lowers sights a bit for Spend a Buck

Csaba returns to Calder for the $100,000 Spend a Buck after finishing last in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby.

MIAMI – The last time Csaba started, he raced for $1 million in the Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing. On Saturday, Csaba returns home to compete for just a tenth of that purse money in the Grade 3 Spend a Buck Handicap, the only graded stakes on this year’s Festival of the Sun program.

Csaba, a 3-year-old son of Kitten’s Joy, finished seventh and last behind Handsome Mike after being hung wide throughout in the Grade 2 Pennsylvania Derby. It was a trip his trainer, Phil Gleaves, had not expected.

Kitten’s Point, Oscar Party, and Always Kitten look like the top contenders among the 13 fillies in the 1 1/16-mile Jessamine, including one also-eligible. The winner gets an expenses-paid trip to the Nov. 2 BC Juvenile Fillies Turf.
