Woodbine: Next Question connects at 16-1 in Nearactic

Next Question, ridden by Ramon Dominguez, qualifies for the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint by winning his stakes debut in the Nearctic.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — The  longshot Next Question punched his ticket to the  Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint with a victory in his stakes debut Sunday at Woodbine in the $501,200 Nearctic, a BC Win and You’re in event. 

With Ramon Dominguez up, Next Question raced up front in the two-path beside Bear Tough Tiger. They dueled through moderate fractions in the six-furlong dash, before Next Question edged away to score by a half-length over a closing Night Carnation. Bear Tough Tiger held off favored Big Band Sound for third in the diverse 11-horse field.

Woodbine: Delegation gets away with slow fractions in Durham Cup

Delegation, the only 3-year-old in the field, goes wire to wire under Patrick Husbands in the Durham Cup.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario— The favored Delegation led all the way under Patrick Husbands to notch his first stakes Sunday at Woodbine in the $150,300 Durham Cup.

Delegation, the lone 3-year-old in the lineup, set slow fractions in the nine-furlong Polytrack route, and then held off City Wolf in the stretch to prevail by 1 1/4  lengths, in 1:50.60.

“He’s by Speightstown, which is speed, speed, but he’s not a run-off type,” said Husbands. “You don’t take a hold of him.”

Keeneland: Hollywood's Matriarch could be next target for Dayatthespa

The 3-year-old filly Dayatthespa earned a 92 Beyer Speed Figure for her win in Saturday's Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Dayatthespa was scheduled to return to New York by charter flight Sunday, the day after the filly recorded her fifth straight victory with an emphatic two-length, front-running score in the Grade 1, $400,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup over the Keeneland turf.

Dayatthespa earned a 92 Beyer Speed Figure in the QE II and could run next in the Grade 1 Matriarch at Betfair Hollywood Park on Nov. 25 “if she trains the way I’d like her to, and if I feel she’s up to all that trip out west entails,” according to trainer Chad Brown.

Northlands: Silver Baubles makes Harvest Gold Plate his fourth straight win

Santa Anita: Tilde remains undefeated by taking California Cup Juvenile Fillies

ARCADIA, Calif.- Tilde is proving unbeatable in the California-bred 2-year-old filly division this year.

After sweeping the two sprint stakes for Cal-bred 2-year-old fillies at Del Mar during the summer, Tilde won her first start over 1 1/16 miles in Saturday’s $250,000 California Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Tilde ($6.20) closed from third in a field of 10 to win by a half-length over 13-1 Doinghardtimeagain. Sent off as a slight favorite, Tilde ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.56.

Santa Anita: Newly reinstated Baze takes California Cup Classic aboard Lucky Primo

ARCADIA, Calif. – Just eight days after returning from an absence of more than a year, jockey Tyler Baze found himself winning one of the biggest California Cup races of the day Saturday at Santa Anita when he teamed with Lucky Primo to score a mild upset in the $175,000 Classic.

Baze perfectly placed Lucky Primo outside of 40-1 longshot Got Even during the early going, and while Got Even proved a surprisingly stubborn foe down the stretch, Lucky Primo ($11.80) out-finished him by a half-length to earn the victory in 1:42.05 for 1 1/16 miles on the fast main track.

Santa Anita: Bella Viaggia rallies to take her division of Cal Cup Distaff

ARCADIA, Calif. - Minutes before Bella Viaggia won her stakes debut in the second division of Saturday's $100,000 California Cup Distaff at Santa Anita, trainer Mike Puype sensed she could be difficult to beat.

"She looked spectacular in the paddock," he said. "She looked ready to win. Her weight is unbelievable. She looks good."

When it rained buckets here with less than 10 minutes to post, the final variable fell into place. Two Months Rent skimmed over a soft course that slowed many of his foes, scoring a $43.20 upset in the Grade 3, $200,000 Hawthorne Derby.

ARCADIA, Calif. - Tiz Flirtatious returned from a layoff of nearly nine months to score an emphatic victory in the first division of the $100,000 California Cup Distaff at Santa Anita on Saturday.

Sent off favored, Tiz Flirtatious ($9.20) closed from last in the final three furlongs to win by 1 3/4 lengths over Best Present Ever.

The late rally did not surprise winning rider Joel Rosario, who rode Tiz Flirtatious to two wins in late 2011.

“She was very relaxed,” he said. “She was not rank. She covered a lot of ground.”
