PHOENIX  – Glenco Kid, a stakes winner at Hastings and coming off a stakes try at Betfair at Hollywood Park, appreciated the change in class altitude as the 2-year-old rallied smartly to capture Saturday’s $35,000 Lost in the Fog Juvenile at Turf Paradise.

ARCADIA, Calif. - Avare took to a wet-fast track with enthusiasm on Saturday, winning his first stakes in the $77,500 Eddie Logan Stakes for 2-year-olds over a mile at Santa Anita.

The race was originally scheduled for the turf, but was switched to the main track after hours of morning rain. The surface switch resulted in the withdrawal of five of the 10 runners.

Avare ($7.60) led throughout the Logan under jockey Rafael Bejarano, drawing away in the stretch to win by 4 1/4 lengths over even-money favorite Gabriel Charles. Will True Up finished third.

Throughout his eight-race campaign in 2012, Golddigger’s Boy has been strictly limited to one-turn races. But given his fondness for the main track at Parx Racing and his ability to handle two turns in the past, Golddigger’s Boy looks dangerous in Monday’s $75,000 Auld Lang Syne Stakes at a mile and 70 yards.

This past summer, the 5-year-old Golddigger’s Boy was good enough to miss by a neck in the $150,000 Donald Le Vine Memorial Handicap and followed up that effort by finishing second in the Grade 3 James Marvin at Saratoga.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Tuesday’s undercard includes a 1 1/16-mile entry-level allowance race that lured a field of 11 3-year-olds looking to earn themselves a starting berth in the Grade 3 Holy Bull later this month. The lineup includes six horses coming off a maiden win, led by Bradester, a son of Lion Heart who graduated by three lengths going 1 1/16 miles at Churchill Downs in his second start.

Casse said he is looking for an improved effort from Gunderman, who returns to allowance company after finishing sixth in Woodbine’s Display in his 2-year-old finale.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Mucho Macho Man was equipped with blinkers for the first time in quite a while when he worked four furlongs in 46.26 seconds here on Saturday. Mucho Macho Man, going in company with stablemate Skinny Peter, posted splits of 22.38 and 34.08 and was in hand finishing inside his partner before galloping out five furlongs in 1:00.09.

OLDSMAR, Fla. - Rallying down the middle of the track after a half-mile, Appealing Stella ran down pacesetter Becausei'mworthit inside the final sixteenth to score a 1 1/4-length victory in the $50,000 Minaret Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday.      

Under a well-judged ride by jockey Angel Serpa, Appealing Stella held a striking position early as Becausei'mworthit ripped out a quarter of  22;31 seconds and half-mile of  45.74 over a track that was listed "wet fast" but was a bit on the dull side, especially through the stretch.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – It may be a little early for Kentucky Derby fever. But the bug will definitely be in the air on Tuesday at Gulfstream Park when the first derby of the year, the $100,000 Gulfstream Park Derby, is among the highlights of a 10-race program restricted to 3-year-olds.

The Gulfstream Park Derby is one of two races on the holiday card that will offer 3-year-olds an opportunity to hitch their wagon to the Kentucky Derby trail. The second is the six-furlong Spectacular Bid, which features the second start of the sensational maiden winner Little Distorted.

Il Villano has been coming from off the pace in his recent races, including a nose defeat in his last visit to Laurel Park for the $350,000 Frank De Francis Memorial Dash  two months ago. But he proved even more effective racing on the front end over a muddy track Saturday in the $100,000 Dave’s Friend Stakes for older sprinters.

Sent to the front by jockey Kendrick Carmouche to challenge New York shipper This Ones  for Phil, Il Villano ($6.40) put away the 3-2 favorite and splashed his way to a 3 1/2-length victory.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – On New Year’s Day 2012, Nicole H became the seventh horse to win the Interborough Stakes in two consecutive years, and the eighth to win it twice overall in 91 previous runnings.

On Tuesday – New Year’s Day 2013 – Nicole H will be favored to become the first horse to win the Interborough three times when she takes on seven fillies and mares in the six-furlong race at Aqueduct. The Interborough shares billing with the Ladies Handicap on Aqueduct’s nine-race New Year’s Day card. Both races carry purses of $75,000.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - A slow start cost Indiano a chance to win the 2011 Mr. Prospector. He made no such mistake when given a second chance in the same event one year later, rallying from off the pace to a three-quarter-length victory over Off the Jak on Saturday at Gulfstream Park.
