Woodbine: Hobnobsnob stretching out for Wednesday turf allowance

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Hobnobsnob won her comeback in an allowance race for Ontario-sired nonwinners of three, and now the two-time winner gets to compete at the same level in a longer grass event in Wednesday’s Woodbine feature.

Hobnobsnob graduated over a mile on the lawn last July, her only win from 10 starts in 2012. Following a six-month layoff, she prevailed June 1 in a front-end battle to win the aforementioned seven-furlong allowance by a neck.

Trainer Earl Barnett said he had no qualms about running Hobnobsnob out of her proper condition.

Pleasanton: Saint Prado wins Livermore Valley Wine Stakes

William G. Vassar
Saint Prado (right) got his first stakes victory in Sunday's Livermore Valley Wine.

Sometimes it pays for a trainer to listen to a jockey.

Trainer Jeff Bonde remembered that jockey Rafael Bejarano suggested that Saint Prado ($10.80) could be a good sprinter, and when he entered the Kitten’s Joy colt in the $53,350 Livermore Valley Wine Stakes at the Alameda County Fair, he was rewarded with the colt’s first stakes victory Sunday.

Saint Prado broke alertly, but jockey Frank Alvarado let the speedy Los Tres Bohemios and South Floyd battle for the lead in the six-furlong race for 3-year-olds.
