Debra A. Roma
Sippican Harbor wins the Spinaway Stakes by two lengths at Saratoga on Saturday.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Sippican Harbor came out of her upset victory in Saturday’s Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes “perfect” according to trainer Gary Contessa, but the filly won’t start again before the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Nov. 2 at Churchill Downs.

“Just train into the Breeders’ Cup,” Contessa said. “She ran twice in 20 days, that’s enough. I can’t see the perfect timing for another race, we’ll go in with a fresh horse.”

“First breeze, easy three-eighths by himself, get him back under way,” trainer Todd Pletcher said.

Pletcher said he would love to get Army Mule to the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Churchill Downs on Nov. 3, “but that’s a long way away, we have to figure out how we’re going to get there.”

Hotshot Anna on track for Presque Isle Masters

Coady Photography
Hotshot Anna is to make her next start in the Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes on Sept. 17.

Hotshot Anna is a competent sprinter on turf and even better on dirt, but what she does far better than anything else is race over synthetic surfaces.

After easily winning the Chicago Handicap on June 23 over Arlington’s Polytrack surface, Hotshot Anna returned from a freshening to dominate the $100,000 Satin N Lace Stakes on Aug. 20 over Tapeta at Presque Isle Downs. That makes the $400,000 Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes on Sept. 17 an obvious spot for Hotshot Anna, and owner-trainer Hugh Robertson plans on doing the obvious.

Trainer Scott Becker recently notched his 1,000th career victory.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – It took trainer Scott Becker just 10 years to amass 1,000 wins, but the irony is that the milestone, hit last week at Fairmount Park, comes during Becker’s slowest season since 2010.
