WinStar, Stonewall horses lead Keeneland session

 LEXINGTON, Ky. - WinStar Racing and the Stonewall Farm horses now in receivership provided a batch of six-figure horses that lit up a rainy day at Keeneland's November breeding stock sale.

Mandy Pope's Whisper Hill Farm picked up WinStar's juvenile Sharp Humor filly Funny Sunny for $380,000, the highest price at 3 p.m. Funny Sunny won her first start, a Hoosier Park maiden race, by 2 1/4 lengths on Oct. 13 for WinStar and trainer Richard Budge. She is a half-sister to stakes-placed Awesome Launch.

Gainesway raises fees for Tapit and Afleet Alex, lowers others

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Gainesway Farm will boost the fees for Tapit and Afleet Alex, but the other six horses on the Lexington farm’s roster will stand for less than they did in 2010.

the farm also will introduce new sire Afleet Express at a $10,000 fee.

Tapit rises from $50,000 to $80,000 in 2011. His 2010 graded winners include Grade 1 winner Tell A Kelly and record-setting Grade 2 winner Concord Point, as well as Grade 1-placed Trappe Shot and Joyful Victory.

Summer Bird to stand for $15K

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Champion Summer Bird will enter stud in 2011 with a $15,000 fee, Elaine and Ben Walden’s Pauls Mill announced Tuesday.

The Versailles, Ky.,farm also stands Artie Schiller, Bellamy Road, and U S Ranger, and two of those sires will have fee cuts in 2011. Artie Schiller will drop from his 2010 fee level of $15,000 to $10,000, and U S Ranger will decrease from $10,000 to $5,000. Bellamy Road will have the same fee he had this year, $10,000.

Forever Together retired to Stone Farm

LEXINGTON, Ky. - George Strawbridge's 2008 champion grass mare Forever Together has retired to Stone Farm in Kentucky and will be bred to Smart Strike in 2011.

The Paris, Ky., farm's owner, Arthur Hancock III, confirmed the 6-year-old mare's retirement and mating plans Monday.

Darley sets 2011 U.S. fees

Darley Stud will keep Medaglia d'Oro and Street Cry at their 2010 stud fee levels for the coming breeding season and will decrease the fees of seven other stallions on the roster at its Kentucky farm.

Medaglia d'Oro will continue to stand for $100,000, and Street Cry will command a $150,000 fee again. Sheikh Mohammed al-Maktoum's operation will raise the fee of one stallion, Bernardini, from $60,000 to $75,000. An A. P. Indy horse, he is in a tight three-way battle with Congrats and Bluegrass Cat for freshman sire honors this year.

Taylor Made adjusts stallion fees

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Taylor Made Stallions generally has lowered its stallions’ fees for 2011 while offering discounts for Nov. 1 stud fee payments.

Unbridled’s Song, the farm’s most expensive sire, will carry a $100,000 fee for stands-and-nurses terms, but that drops to $85,000 if paid by Nov. 1 of year bred. In 2010, the 17-year-old Unbridled stallion stood for $100,000 payable Nov. 1.

Tiz Wonderful weanling colt leads Keeneland session at $50K

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A $50,000 weanling by first-crop sire Tiz Wonderful led a parade of young stock at the top of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale’s prices Monday.

Monday’s session was the eighth of 13 and followed a weekend of decreases in gross receipts, average price, and median price.

The session-leading Tiz Wonderful colt sold to Indian Creek, agent, and was part of agent Susan Forrester’s consignment. The dark bay or brown colt out of Wildwife, by Wild Gale, is a half-brother to Grade 3-placed stakes-winner R Loyal Man.

Grade 1 winner Nonsuch Bay sells for $210,000

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Grade 1 winner Nonsuch Bay provided the buzz Sunday at Keeneland’s November breeding stock sale, where she was the only six-figure horse at the auction’s seventh session. Nonsuch Bay brought $210,000 from SF Bloodstock.
