Fasig-Tipton session topped by $200K Hard Spun colt

A $200,000 Hard Spun colt from Barbaro's family topped the opening session Tuesday at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic's Eastern fall yearling sale in Timonium, Md. With a 17-percent smaller catalog, the session saw a dip in gross but put up increases in average and median prices.

D'Accord dead at 32

Pensioned New York stallion D'Accord, sire of numerous graded winners and one of the last Secretariat sons, has died at age 32.

D'Accord had been pensioned since 1998 and died at Akindale Thoroughbred Rescue in Pawling, N.Y., which announced his death on its Facebook page. D'Accord was euthanized on Monday because of the infirmities of old age.

Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale has $200K leader

A $200,000 Hard Spun colt from Barbaro's family was the early leader at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic's two-day Eastern fall yearling sale Tuesday in Timonium, Md.

Bradley Thoroughbreds bought the dark bay or brown colt, who is out of Grade 1-placed stakes-winner Lucky Lavender Gal. A Carson City mare, she is a full sister to Barbaro's dam, La Ville Rouge, and already has produced Grade 3-placed Lavender's Lad and the stakes-winner Lavender Lass. The Fasig-Tipton sale yearling is a half-sibling to both of those runners.
Paramount Sales, agent, consigned the Kentucky-bred colt.

Vinery consolidates New York stallions

Vinery, which has expanded its operation to several New York farms in recent months, will stand all of its New York stallions at Sugar Maple Farm in Poughquag in 2012.

The Kentucky-based farm announced Tuesday that it will relocate Frost Giant, Justenuffhumor, and Posse from Empire Stud to Sugar Maple, where they will stand alongside Friendly Island and Bluegrass Cat. Bluegrass Cat previously stood at WinStar Farm in Kentucky and has moved to New York as part of a Vinery/WinStar venture. Vinery will retain Empire Stud as a boarding facility.

Life At Ten retired from racing, to be in Keeneland sale

Life At Ten, the two-time Grade 1 winner whose last-place finish in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic created one of the year’s biggest controversies, has been retired from racing.

David Vance, manager of Candy DeBartolo's racing stable, said Life At Ten will sell in the Keeneland November mixed auction, which starts in Lexington on Nov. 7. She will be part of the Three Chimneys Sales agency's consignment, Vance said. "That's the firm plan," Vance said.

Read the Footnotes moving to Oklahoma

New York stallion Read the Footnotes has been sold for stud duty in Oklahoma, according to Chad Schumer.

Schumer Bloodstock brokered the deal for Read the Footnotes, who will stand at River Oaks Farm in Sulphur, Okla., in 2012. His fee will be announced later. The 10-year-old Smoke Glacken horse previously stood for Sequel Stallions at New York’s Keane Stud, where his fee was $6,500.

Fleet Indian, Eclipse winner and dam of $2 million yearling, dies from colic complications

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Champion Fleet Indian, dam of 2009's highest-priced yearling, has died at age 10.

An Indian Charlie mare, Fleet Indian was euthanized at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital here on the night of Oct. 1 because of complications from colic. She was not in foal, according to Karen Bailey of Summer Wind Farm.

Siberian Summer dies at 22

California-based Siberian Summer, sire of Dream of Summer and a dozen other stakes winners, has died at age 22. A son of Siberian Express, Siberian Summer was euthanized July 30 after intestinal complications following surgery, The Blood-Horse online edition has reported.

Siberian Summer most recently stood at Victory Rose Thoroughbreds in Vacaville, Calif., his home since 2007, and had a $3,500 fee this year.
Bred and raced by Buckram Oak Farm in Kentucky, Siberian Summer won the 1993 Strub Stakes and five other races during a 32-start career, and earned $501,615.
