Stonestreet Stables has retired its homebred Maclean's Music because of complications from the removal of a fractured split bone, Stonestreet said Tuesday.

A 4-year-old Distorted Humor colt, Maclean's Music raced only once, winning his debut by 7 1/4 lengths in March 2011 at Santa Anita. That performance earned him a Beyer Speed Figure of 114, the highest ever for a debut winner.

Maclean's Music will stand at Hill 'n' Dale Farms in Lexington, Ky., for $6,500. He is out of the Grade 2 winner Forest Music, by Unbridled's Song and is her first stakes-winner.

Tattersalls Book 2 opens with $252K toppers, decline in average and gross

A pair of $252,000 colts led selling Monday as the four-day Tattersalls October Book 2 yearling auction began in Newmarket, England, with declines across the board.

Gross fell 20 percent, due partly to a smaller catalog which offered 235 yearlings as compared to 248 last year. Compared year-to-year in the local auction currency of guineas, the average price was down by 8 percent. The median price, about $50,400, was 3 percent lower this year.

Compared with 2011, key figures rose remarkably. The average price increased 36 percent, from $16,881, and gross receipts rose 54 percent, to $4,006,600.
