Pauls Mill acquires half-interest in Mining My Own

Ben and Elaine Walden’s Pauls Mill announced Thursday that the central Kentucky farm has acquired a 50 percent interest in Mining My Own, dam of 2009 Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird and multiple Grade 1 winner Dullahan.

The 11-year-old Smart Strike mare was relocated to Pauls Mill in Versailles, Ky., on Thursday along with her 2012 Giant’s Causeway colt. Phil and Judy Needham and Bena Halecky, who boarded Mining My Own at Bona Terra Farm in Georgetown, Ky., retain the other half-interest in the mare.

Vinery moving Pomeroy from Florida to New York

Grade 1 winner Pomeroy, whose graded winners include Pomeroys Pistol and Flashpoint, will move from Vinery Florida to Vinery New York for the 2013 breeding season, Vinery announced Monday.

The 11-year-old Boundary horse stood at Vinery Florida this year for a $10,000 advertised fee. Vinery New York hasn’t announced his Empire State fee yet but will do so before the Breeders’ Cup, according to farm officials.

For the fourth year, the New Vocations racehorse retraining and adoption program has received pledges from Breeders’ Cup owners and trainers who will donate a percentage of their purse earnings at the event Nov. 2-3 at Santa Anita.

Kipling leaving Crestwood Farm for Mighty Acres in Oklahoma

Kipling, who sired 2007 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Kip Deville, will relocate from Crestwood Farm in Kentucky to Oklahoma for 2013 in a deal brokered by Schumer Bloodstock.

Kipling will stand at Mighty Acres, a division of Center Hills Farm, in Pryor, Okla. He started his career at Mighty Acres but left the state after Kip Deville’s Breeders’ Cup victory. Kipling’s 2013 fee has yet to be announced; he stood in 2012 for an advertised fee of $5,000.

Algorithms to stand stud at Claiborne

Graded winner Algorithms, who was retired undefeated last week after three starts, will enter stud at Claiborne farm, the Paris, Ky., nursery announced Thursday.

The Bernardini 3-year-old will stand for $7,500 and will be syndicated.

Algorithms won the Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes on Jan. 29 but was retired after aggravating a previous splint bone injury during training. Campaigned by Starlight Stables, he had been considered a leading Kentucky Derby contender this spring before the initial injury in his right front leg. Algorithms won both his starts at 2.

Fasig-Tipton October yearling sale ends with record gross, average, and median

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Fasig-Tipton’s bullish October yearling sale ended on a record-breaking note Wednesday here.

The three-day auction ended with 880 yearlings sold for $22,991,600, resulting in a $26,127 average and a $12,750 median. Those figures beat the previous records, all set last year, of a $17,046,800 gross, a $24,010 average, and a $12,000 median. Last year’s auction sold 710 yearlings.

Tattersalls December catalogs available online

Catalogs for the Tattersalls December breeding stock and foal sale are available online now at www.tattersalls.com. The auction will take place between Nov. 26 and Dec. 6 at Tattersalls in Newmarket, England.

A total of 275 yearlings will be sold on Nov. 26; 1,015 foals will sell Nov. 28-Dec. 11; and 1,131 fillies, broodmares, and broodmare prospects will be auctioned Dec. 3-6. The sale will stream live at the Tattersalls website.

Fasig-Tipton October: Indian Charlie colt sells for $250,000 on final day

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Fasig-Tipton’s bullish October yearling sale continued to run ahead of last year’s numbers Wednesday as it entered the homestretch on its last day of selling.

At 3:30 p.m., a $250,000 Indian Charlie colt from the family of Grade 1-placed Victory U. S. A. was the session leader. Charles Zacney, whose Cash Is King partnership campaigned dual classic winner Afleet Alex, bought the March 3 foal. The bay colt is out of multiple Grade 2 winner Foresta and was part of the Woods Edge agency’s consignment.
