Flightline gets first mare in foal

Unbeaten Horse of the Year Flightline had his first mare confirmed in foal this week.

Lane’s End Farm, which stands the son of Tapit for a syndicate, reported that Lady Scarlet is in foal to Flightline. The daughter of Union Rags won four of 12 starts, including the Grade 3 Miss Preakness Stakes at Pimlico and the Cicada Stakes at Aqueduct.

Lady Scarlet was a $200,000 purchase by Glendalough at Dromoland out of the Keeneland January horses of all ages sale and was retired to broodmare duty this season at age 4.

Summer Wind Farm, the Georgetown, Ky., breeding operation helmed by Jane Lyon, enjoyed a stellar 2022 season with unbeaten Horse of the Year Flightline. The champion, who was bred, raised, and co-owned by Summer Wind, has been retired and began his stud career this month at Lane’s End Farm, with several of Lyon’s top broodmares set to visit him.

Monomoy Girl has first foal, a colt by Into Mischief

Two-time Eclipse Award champion Monomoy Girl has delivered her first foal, a colt by four-time reigning leading sire Into Mischief.

Spendthrift Farm announced the arrival Saturday. Spendthrift raced and stands Into Mischief, and campaigned Monomoy Girl in partnership through the final races of her career after purchasing her for $9.5 million at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton November sale.
