Forty Tales retired to Sequel Stallions in New York

Multiple Grade 2 winner Forty Tales has been retired from racing and will stand the 2014 breeding season at Sequel Stallions in Hudson, N.Y. for an advertised fee of $6,500.

The 3-year-old son of Tale of the Cat finishes his career with five wins in 11 starts for earnings of $666,789. Forty Tales was one of the 3-year-old division’s leading sprinters in 2013, winning the Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakes and Amsterdam Handicap, as well as the Grade 3 Derby Trial Stakes. He also turned in a pair of runner-up finishes in the Grade 2 Hutcheson Stakes and the Grade 3 Bold Ruler Handicap.

Storm’s Eye, Europe to stand at Bare Foot Farms in Indiana

Bare Foot Farms in Bennington, Ind., has acquired stallions Storm’s Eye and Europe from Vikata Vista Stud Farm, also in Bennington, to stand the 2014 breeding season, BloodHorse reports.

Storm’s Eye, a half brother to champion and successful sire Leroidesanimaux, as well as Brazilian Group 1 winner Uapybo and Group 3 winner Disport, will stand for an advertised fee of $1,000. The 7-year-old Storm Cat horse’s first foals are 3-year-olds of 2013.

Delaware Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association sets stallion season auction for January

The Delaware Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association will hold its second annual stallion season auction Jan. 5-12.

Bidding for the online auction will end on Jan. 12th, at 8 p.m. Eastern. Stallion season donations are still being accepted, with the proceeds going toward DTHA Winners Circle PAC Fund and the Delaware Certified Thoroughbred Program.

The Delaware Certified Thoroughbred Program will waive the application fee for the progeny from stallion seasons purchased at this auction for the 2014 breeding season.

Hard Spun’s Japanese fee set at $38,750

Stallion Hard Spun will stand his first season overseas in 2014 at Darley's Japan farm for a fee of about $38,750.

Darley’s Japanese stud farm in Hokkaido, Japan, has released its advertised fees for the 2014 breeding season. Its stallion roster is highlighted by U.S. transplant Hard Spun and Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso.

Hard Spun, a 9-year-old Pennsylvania-bred son of Danzig, moves to Darley Japan after standing his first six seasons at Darley’s U.S. base, Jonabell Farm in Lexington, Ky. His initial fee will be 4 million Japanese yen, or about $38,750.

Grade 3 winner Keep Up retired to Mill Ridge

Grade 3 winner Keep Up has been retired and will enter stud in 2014 at Mill Ridge Farm near Lexington, Ky. The 6-year-old Unbridled’s Song horse will stand for a fee of $5,000, stands and nurses, or $4,000 for two years if participating in the Mill Ridge “Share the Upside” incentive program.

Leading Australian sire Zabeel pensioned

Zabeel, a Group 1 winner and top sire in Australia and New Zealand, has been pensioned from stallion duty, RaceNet reports.

The 27-year-old son of prominent Australia and New Zealand sire Sir Tristram stood his entire stud career at Cambridge Stud in New Zealand, beginning in 1991. Zabeel has sired 20 crops of racing age, and was Australia’s leading sire in 1998 and 1999, as well as New Zealand’s leading sire six times. Additionally, he was New Zealand’s leading broodmare sire in 2012.

Zanjero sold to Turkish interests

Multiple Grade 2 winner Zanjero has been sold to Turkish owner/breeder Serdar Kemal Ozcolak and will stand in 2014 at the Jockey Club of Turkey’s Karacabey National Stud in Bursa for an advertised fee of $2,954 (6,000 Turkish Lira), BloodHorse reports.

The 9-year-old son of Cherokee Run previously stood at Millennium Farms in Lexington, Ky., where he retired for the 2009 breeding season. His first foals to race are 3-year-olds of 2013, and his top runners include stakes winner Johnny Handsome and stakes-placed runners R S Watson and Bleu Moon Magic.

Oklahoma Thoroughbred Retirement Program has big year on many fronts

Prospective Kiss, 12, has been retired to his breeder's farm after racing in $2,500 claiming races in North Dakota.

In a year of accomplishment, the Oklahoma Thoroughbred Retirement Program has forged a relationship with the equestrian team at the University of Oklahoma, assisted in rescue efforts during the Moore, Okla., tornado, and reunited the 12-year-old Prospective Kiss, who last raced in July, with his breeder, CresRan.

A visit to the 2013 Tattersalls December sale in Newmarket, England, last week offered the opportunity to make the short trip out Duchess Drive to the village of Cheveley to see the undefeated Frankel. The great one did not disappoint, but the most surprising aspect of a delightful hour at Juddmonte Farms’ stallion division was the appearance of Cacique among the seven stallions standing for 2014 at Banstead Manor Stud.
