Street Cry taken out of stud duty in Australia

Leading sire Street Cry has been taken out of service at Darley’s Australian division due to lameness.

Racing Post reports that the 16-year-old son of Machiavellian is suffering from a neurological ailment that had caused severe lameness in his right foreleg and has left him unable to stand for long periods of time. He is unlikely to return to the breeding shed for the current Southern Hemisphere season, which began on Monday.

Winchill to stand at Pointer Farm in Pennsylvania

Winchill, a stakes-winning son of Tapit, will make his debut at stud in 2015 at Pointer Farm in Bernville, Pa., where he will stand for an advertised fee of $3,000.

The Pennsylvania-bred 6-year-old won 6 of 22 starts for earnings of $288,294, highlighted by a victory in the First Responder Stakes last year at Parx. He also placed in three additional stakes.

Spendthrift promotes Toothaker to stallion sales manager

B. Wayne Hughes’s Spendthrift Farm announced Wednesday that it has promoted Mark Toothaker to the position of stallion sales manager. Toothaker previously worked in other capacities as a member of the sales team at the Lexington, Ky., farm.

Western Kentucky breeder Garvin dies at age 71

David Garvin, a Thoroughbred breeder and founder of the Camping World retail chain, died Saturday from injuries sustained from an accidental fall off the roof of his home on Ironwood Farm in Bowling Green, Ky. He was 71.

In 1966, Garvin founded Camping World, opening his first franchise at Beech Bend Amusement Park in Bowling Green when he was 23 years old. It grew into a leading provider of parts and services for recreational vehicles and camping supplies.

During the 1980s, Garvin focused his attention on the Thoroughbred industry, purchasing Ironwood Farm.

Oxbow will stand at Calumet Farm in 2015

Oxbow will be sent to Calumet Farm this week and will not race again in 2013.

Oxbow, winner of the 2013 Preakness Stakes, will move to owner Brad Kelley’s Calumet Farm for 2015.

The 4-year-old Oxbow, a son of Awesome Again, entered stud this season at Taylor Made Stallions in Nicholasville, Ky., for an advertised fee of $20,000. His fee at Calumet will be announced at a later date.

Pleasantly Perfect to Taylor Made for 2015

Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and veteran sire Pleasantly Perfect will stand at Taylor Made Stallions in Nicholasville, Ky., for the 2015 breeding season, with a fee to be announced at a later date.

A 16-year-old son of Pleasant Colony, Pleasantly Perfect previously stood at Lane’s End. He retired to the Versailles, Ky., farm in 2004 after suffering an ankle injury following his third-place finish in that year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Bandbox entering stud in Maryland for 2015

Bandbox, a Grade 3-winning son of leading sire Tapit, will enter stud in 2015 at Northview Stallion Station in Chesapeake City, Md.

The 6-year-old, who is currently available for inspection at the farm, will stand for an advertised fee of $2,500.

Tritap to Heritage Stallions in Maryland

Tritap will join Heritage Stallions in 2015 for his first season at stud.

Tritap, a Grade 2-placed son of leading sire Tapit, will join the roster of Heritage Stallions in Chesapeake City, Md., for his debut season in 2015.

The 5-year-old horse finished his career with two wins in nine starts for earnings of $155,936. Tritap set a track record at Churchill Downs for 1 3/16 miles during the final start of his 3-year-old season, covering the distance in 1:58.12. In his first start the next year, he finished second by a head in the Grade 2 San Fernando Stakes.

Stephanie’s Kitten, Kitten Kaboodle to be offered at Fasig-Tipton November

Stephanie’s Kitten is pointing to Tampa Bay Down’s Hillsborough Stakes for her 2014 debut.

Stephanie’s Kitten and Kitten Kaboodle, both homebred graded stakes winners for Ken and Sarah Ramsey, will be offered at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky selected fall mixed sale, Blood Horse reports.

Both horses are by the Ramseys’ homebred sire Kitten’s Joy, North America’s leading sire by general progeny earnings in 2013 and the continent's leading 2014 turf sire through Aug. 27 by a margin of over $1 million.

The Fasig-Tipton sale will be held Nov. 3 at the auction company’s Newtown Paddocks location in Lexington, Ky.
