Mixed Pleasure dies of colic at age 30

Multiple stakes winner Mixed Pleasure, a resident of Old Friends Equine in Georgetown, Ky., was euthanized Monday due to complications from colic. He was 30.

The son of Sucha Pleasure had resided at Old Friends since July 2012 after being one of 14 horses seized by Charlotte Farmer and the advocacy group Equi-Army-NDO.com when he faced the risk of going to auction following the death of Helen Tice, owner of Grand Trine Farm in Molalla, Ore., where he last stood.

The Big Beast retired to Ocala Stud in Florida

Grade 1 winner The Big Beast has been retired from racing and will stand at Ocala Stud in Ocala, Fla., for a fee to be determined at a later time.

The 4-year-old son of Yes It’s True finishes with four wins in nine career starts for earnings of $676,300. He won the Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes and turned in runner-up finishes in the Grade 1 Forego Stakes and Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap.

Darley in America releases 2016 stud fees

Darley’s U.S. breeding operation has released its advertised fees for the 2016 breeding season for the residents of its main base at Jonabell Farm in Lexington, Ky., and its horses standing at Sequel Stallions in Hudson, N.Y.

Medaglia d’Oro will once again serve as the operation’s flagship stallion by price, standing for $150,000 in 2016. The 16-year-old son of El Prado was advertised at $125,000 during the most recent breeding season.

Alphabet Soup pensioned to Old Friends

Alphabet Soup, winner of the 1996 Breeders' Cup Classic, was pensioned from stud duty and will reside at Old Friends Equine in Georgetown, Ky.

Alphabet Soup, winner of the 1996 Breeders’ Cup Classic and a longtime sire for Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs operation, has been pensioned from stud duty and retired to Old Friends Equine in Georgetown, Ky.

The 24-year-old son of Cozzene previously resided at Adena Springs in Paris, Ky., bringing to an end a stallion career that also included stints in New York, Florida, and Ontario. He stood the 2015 breeding season for an advertised fee of $3,500.

Three Chimneys releases 2016 fees

Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Ky. has released the 2016 advertised fees for its nine-horse stallion roster, led by second-year stallion Will Take Charge.

Will Take Charge, a 5-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song, will stand for $30,000 during the upcoming breeding season, remaining consistent with his fee in 2015.

All other returning Three Chimneys stallions will remain at their same fees from the 2015 season, as well.

Two stallions will make their debuts at stud in 2016, including Grade 1 winner Palace Malice, who will stand for $20,000.

Constitution retired to WinStar Farm for 2016

Grade 1 winner Constitution has been retired from racing and will debut at stud at WinStar Farm in Versailles, Ky. for the 2016 breeding season, where he will stand for an advertised fee of $25,000.

The 4-year-old son of Tapit won four of his eight starts for earnings of $1,031,596, highlighted by victories in the Grade 1 Florida Derby and Donn Handicap. He also ran third in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap.

Todd Pletcher trained Constitution for owners WinStar Farm and Twin Creeks Racing Stables.

Daily Racing Form releases Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Magazine

Daily Racing Form, in conjunction with the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA), has published  a new annual TAA Magazine to increase awareness of the TAA’s mission and its ongoing efforts to help fund  Thoroughbred aftercare in the United States and in Canada.  The inaugural magazine is currently being distributed throughout Lexington, Ky., in advance of the Breeders’ Cup and will be available at many other key locations across the country.

Fast Anna to Three Chimneys in 2016

Fast Anna drew post 6 among eight in the Grade 1 King's Bishop.

Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Ky. has acquired a majority interest in Grade 1-placed stakes winner Fast Anna and will stand the 4-year-old son of Medaglia d’Oro in 2016 for a fee to be announced later.

Fast Anna retired with three wins in nine career starts for earnings of $296,731, highlighted by a win in the Sawgrass Stakes at Gulfstream Park. He also placed in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes and Grade 3 Gallant Bob Stakes.

At this year’s Fasig-Tipton Florida selected sale of 2-year-olds in training, Dennis O’Neill, acting as agent, purchased a colt from the first crop of champion Uncle Mo for $400,000. The colt was sent to his brother Doug O’Neill to race for owner J. Paul Reddam. A few weeks later, at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s March sale of 2-year-olds, he went to just $75,000 for a filly by the same sire and for the same connections.

Community events surround Breeders' Cup

Hosting the Breeders’ Cup at Keene-land will bring fans and participants from around the world to Lexington, Ky., some for the first time, and the local community has embraced the occasion.

A number of events will be held across Central Kentucky in the days leading up to the Breeders’ Cup to showcase local culture, both in and out of the Thoroughbred industry. As one of the smallest metropolitan areas to host a Breeders’ Cup, Lexington provides a unique visitor experience from previous host cities.
