Two new retirees arrive at Old Friends at Kentucky Downs

Kentucky Downs announced on Tuesday that two more horses, Lusty Latin and Hussonfirst, will be among the retirees at the Old Friends at Kentucky Downs facility in Franklin, Ky. The aftercare facility opened on the racetrack complex this summer with five horses: Ball Four, Rumor Has It, Sgt. Bert, Thornfield, and Tour of the Cat. It also now has a miniature horse, Fonzi, at the facility.

Sequel Stallions announces 2016 stud fees for its 6 stallions

Perennial leading sire Freud is atop the New York general sire ranks for 2014.

Sequel Stallions in Hudson, N.Y., announced the fees for its 2016 stallions, led once again by Freud, a perennial leading sire in the Empire State. Freud, a 17-year-old son of Storm Cat, will stand for $10,000, unchanged from the 2015 season.

Emcee, a 7-year-old Unbridled’s Song horse, will stand for $5,000, down from $7,500 from 2015, while Desert Party, a 9-year-old son of Street Cry, had his fee decreased from $7,500 to $4,000.

All other returning members of the Sequel Stallions roster will stand for the same fee as they had this year.

Toast of New York retired, to stand in Qatar

Toast of New York, a Group 2 winner and runner-up in the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic, has been retired from racing and will debut at stud in Qatar for the 2016 breeding season.

The 4-year-old son of Thewayyouare finished with three wins in eight career starts for earnings of $2,343,115, highlighted by a win in the Group 2 U.A.E. Derby and runner-up finishes in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Classic, the latter of which he finished second by a nose to Bayern.

City Zippin, Comedy Show to Davidson’s Tracks-N-Time in Michigan

City Zippin, a multiple allowance winner, has been retired from racing and will stand the 2016 breeding season at Davidson’s Tracks-N-Time in Midland, Mich., joining Comedy Show and Zulu Magic on the farm’s stallion roster. All three will all stand for private treaties.

Stakes winner Japan to stand at Waldorf Farm in New York

Japan, a Grade 2-placed stakes winner, will debut at stud for the 2016 season at Waldorf Farm in North Chatham, N.Y. for an advertised fee of $7,500.

The 3-year-old son of Medaglia d’Oro retires with two wins in five career starts for earnings of $189,000, highlighted by a win in the Easy Goer Stakes at Belmont and a third-place finish behind Texas Red and Frosted in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga. He was injured while training toward the Travers Stakes.

Campbell Stables in Michigan releases 2016 stud fees

Campbell Stables in Jackson, Mich., has announced the fees for its 2016 stallions, with both sires, Gun Power and Elusive Hour, standing for $1,000.

Gun Power, an 18-year-old son of Unbridled, arrived in Michigan for the 2013 breeding season after previously standing at Calibre Farm in Ontario, Canada. His first crop of Michigan-sired runners competed in 2015, led by Gun Powder, winner of the 2-year-old males division of the Michigan Sire Stakes at Hazel Park, and Haley Power, who finished third in the fillies division.

Top Hit rises to top on Arizona sire list

It didn’t take long for Top Hit to become a major player among Arizona’s sire ranks.

When his first crop finished its 3-year-old campaign in 2009, the son of Twining was fourth on the state’s general sire list by earnings. Top Hit spent the next five years positioned no lower than third, and is set to add another year to that run in 2015.

Top Hit also is poised to start a pair of new streaks as Arizona’s leading sire by winners and progeny earnings, after holding both spots for the first time last year.

Khozan retires to Journeyman Stud in Florida for 2016

Khozan, an allowance winner who caused a brief stir this winter on the 2015 Kentucky Derby trail before being derailed by injury, has been retired from racing and will stand the 2016 breeding season at Journeyman Stud in Ocala, Fla., for a fee to be determined later.

Sweet Return to Nicks Farm in Indiana for 2016

Sweet Return moves to Indiana for stud duty in 2016.

Multiple Grade 1 winner Sweet Return will move to Nicks Farm in Sellersburg, Ind., for the 2016 breeding season, where he will stand for an advertised fee of $2,000.

The 15-year-old son of Elmaaul previously resided at Ocala Stud in Ocala, Fla., where he stood the 2015 season for a fee of $3,500.

“We’re excited to have Sweet Return join our stallion roster, said William Nicks of Nicks Farm. “He’ll be one of the most accomplished runners and productive stallions to ever stand in Indiana.”
