Edward “Bo” Boerjan doesn’t know how long he’ll be around, but no need to get morbid here. Boerjan was diagnosed six years ago with colon cancer and still suffers from its remnants, a condition he blithely waves off while living life to the fullest.

Reigning leading sire Tapit, who stands at Gainesway Farm in Lexington, Ky., has broken his own single-season progeny earnings record for a North American stallion.

Through Nov. 29, Tapit's 2015 earnings stand at $17,853,584, leading Medaglia d'Oro by more than $5 million on the general sire list. Tapit finished his record-setting 2014 season with $16,813,536 in earnings, shattering the previous single-season mark of $14,358,570 established by Smart Strike in 2007.

Yes It’s True, a Grade 1 winner and member of the Three Chimneys Farm stallion roster, was euthanized Monday at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Ky., due to a perforated intestine.

The 19-year-old son of Is It True began to show signs of colic before being diagnosed with a perforated intestine, and the decision was made to euthanize after emergency surgery proved unsuccessful. He was buried at Three Chimneys in Midway, Ky.

Kentucky Oaks winner Keeper Hill died on Nov. 20, Mill Ridge Farm, which co-bred and co-campaigned her, has announced. The daughter of Deputy Minister was 20.

Keeper Hill earned more than $1.6 million in a career that included Grade 1 triumphs in the 1998 Oaks and Las Virgenes Stakes and the 1999 Spinster Stakes. She recorded eight additional Grade 1 placings, including a third-place finish in the 1998 Breeders' Cup Distaff.

One of the most attractive yearling fillies to enter the training barn at Windfields Farm in Chesapeake City, Md., in 1973 was Ballade, a $55,000 purchase at the Keeneland July sale of selected yearlings. Though she still was very narrow at that stage, she exemplified the extraordinarily long shoulder and deep girth so notable in the conformation of her sire, French champion Herbager.

Dual classic winner and champion Smarty Jones will return to Kentucky to stand at historic Calumet Farm in Lexington for the 2016 breeding season. 

The 14-year-old Elusive Quality horse most recently stood at Northview Stallion Station in his home state, Pennsylvania. Smarty Jones began his stud career at Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Ky., in 2005 before moving to stand at Ghost Ridge Farms in York, Pa., for the 2011 season. He moved to Northview, in Peach Bottom, Pa., a year later.
