Three new stallions head to Korea for 2016

Stallions Bob and John and Musket Man, both prominent runners, have been sold to continue their stud careers in Korea, headlining that country's new sires for 2016.

Bob and John, a 13-year-old son of Seeking the Gold, previously stood at Saratoga Stud in New York, and has sired six crops of racing age, with 123 winners and combined progeny earnings of more than $7.8 million.

Kentucky Oaks winner Lovely Maria sold to Japanese interests

Lovely Maria wins the Kentucky Oaks. She is set to run Saturday in the Grade 3 Delaware Oaks.

Lovely Maria, the winner of the 2015 Kentucky Oaks, has been sold to Japanese interests for an undisclosed amount.

The 4-year-old daughter of Majesticperfection was previously owned and campaigned by Brereton Jones, who also stands her sire at Airdrie Stud in Midway, Ky. Jones said Thursday that the buyers did not wish to be revealed. The horse was exported to Japan prior to the turn of the new year.

“She’s got a great home,” Jones said. “I hate to see her leave, but that’s part of the business.”

Hakassan to stand at Millennium Farms

Hakassan, a Chilean Triple Crown winner and champion 3-year-old of 2013, will stand the 2016 breeding season at Millennium Farms in Lexington, Ky. The 7-year-old son of Sir Cat will stand as the property of Green Hills Farm Inc. for a private fee.

Hakassan won five of seven starts and earned earnings of $283,771, highlighted by the Chilean Triple Crown of the St. Leger, Dos Mil Guineas, and Gran Criterium Mauricio Serrano Palma, all three Group 1 races. He also won the Group 2 Victor Matetic Fernandez Stakes and placed in the Group 2 Gran Premio Criadores.

Lucky Pulpit will stand for $7,500 this year at Harris Farms in Coalinga, Calif.

When California Chrome won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in 2014, the success propelled his sire, Lucky Pulpit, to the top of California’s stallion ranks.

That season, Lucky Pulpit’s progeny earned $5,149,180. California Chrome accounted for $4,007,800. Lucky Pulpit and California Chrome each might go way beyond those figures this year.

Kiss the Kid to Poplar Creek Horse Center in Ohio

Multiple Grade 3 winner Kiss the Kid will relocate to Poplar Creek Horse Center in Bethel, Ohio, for the 2016 breeding season, where he will stand for an advertised fee of $2,500.

The 13-year-old son of Lemon Drop Kid previously stood at Journeyman Stud in Ocala, Fla.

Kiss the Kid has sired three crops of racing age, with eight winners and combined progeny earnings of $336,212. His top runner is the six-figure earner Just Kidding.

Stephanoatsee, a Grade 2-placed stakes winner and son of Broodmare of the Year Oatsee, will enter stud privately for owner My Meadowview Farm, standing at Sequel Stallions in Hudson, N.Y.

The 7-year-old A.P. Indy ridgling finished his on-track career with three wins in 21 career starts for earnings of $357,173, highlighted by a win in the listed Barbaro Stakes at Delaware Park in 2012. The champion Storm Flag Flying, who was a third-generation Breeders' Cup winner for her remarkable family, died Friday at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky., due to foaling complications after delivering a Candy Ride filly. The Storm Cat mare was 16.

Gervinho relocating within California

Grade 2 winner Gervinho will relocate to Legacy Ranch in Clements, Calif., for the 2016 breeding season and will stand for an advertised fee of $3,500. The 6-year-old son of Unusual Heat debuted at stud in 2015, standing at Tommy Town Thoroughbreds in Santa Ynez, Calif., for the same fee.

"Gervinho is absolutely gorgeous physically and has so much to offer California breeders," said bloodstock agent Gayle Van Leer, who will manage the stallion.

Indy Wind, a Grade 3-placed stakes winner, will relocate to Hand Ride Stables in Dublin, Ohio, for the 2016 breeding season and will stand for an advertised fee of $2,000. The 14-year-old son of A.P. Indy previously stood for the same fee at Journeyman Stud in Ocala, Fla.

Indy Wind is the sire of five crops of racing age, with 22 winners and progeny earnings of more than $1.9 million. His most successful runners include the stakes winner Pachanga Party; the stakes-placed A. P. Cino, Endurance, and Quick as a Bunny; and six additional six-figure earners.
