Ghostzapper, the 2004 Breeders' Cup Classic winner and Horse of the Year, began his stud career at Adena Springs in Paris, Ky., which has been for sale for several years. The stallion was one of several Adena residents who moved to Hill 'n' Dale in Paris beginning with the 2021 season.
An era has ended in the New York stallion ranks, as multi-time leading sire Freud has been pensioned from stud duty.
Freud, a 26-year-old by Storm Cat and a full brother to Giant’s Causeway, has stood at Sequel Stallions in Hudson, N.Y., since 2002. He covered nine mares this year in his final season, according to The Jockey Club’s Report of Mares Bred.
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Canada’s leading sire, Souper Speedy, has reportedly died in a paddock accident at T.C. Westmeath Stud Farm northwest of Toronto, where he stood at stud since retiring from racing.
A 15-year-old son of Indian Charlie, Souper Speedy has sired 15 stakes winners, including Grade 3 winner Il Malocchio. He sired three black-type winners this year, including Souper Supreme and Junior Hot Shot.
Souper Speedy currently ranks as Canada’s leading sire in both progeny earnings ($2,673,363) and number of winners (54).
John Stewart, who runs as Resolute Racing, has made a major name as a buyer of top-flight Thoroughbreds worldwide over the last two years to establish a high-end operation. Now, he might make a splash as a seller.
