LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Barretts March sale of 2-year-olds in training will take place a week earlier than usual in 2002, with horses set to go through the ring in Pomona, Calif., on March 5.

"The primary motivation is to put the sale in a better proximity to the Fasig-Tipton Calder sale in Florida, which makes the trip for our foreign buyers a little easier," said Jerry McMahon, president and general manager of Barretts Equine Sales. Weanling bargains, now

When it was mentioned to Tom Gallo that his consignment spans nearly three pages in the catalog for Fasig-Tipton's Midlantic December Mixed sale, which begins Sunday, he laughed and said, "I like that."

Bargains at Timonium

The two-day Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December Mixed sale, set to get under way in Timonium, Md., on Sunday is like a department store at Christmas - lots of quality choices, many at bargain prices.

In recent years there have been a number of storied sales. In 1992, $800 was all it took to buy a weanling filly by Raja's Revenge, later named Incredible Revenge. The speedy Incredible Revenge went on to win 16 stakes and earn $638,578 during her six-year career.
