Laurel River turns in dominant performance in Dubai World Cup

Laurel River dominated in his first try beyond a mile, easily taking Saturday's $12 million Dubai World Cup at Meydan Racecourse.

Laurel River was a good horse when he campaigned in America for trainer Bob Baffert between 2020 and 2022. Saturday at Meydan Racecourse, now based in the United Arab Emirates with trainer Bhupat Seemar, Laurel River was the best dirt horse in the world, and it wasn’t even close.

New York court to examine legal issues of Forte appeal

A Schenectady County Supreme Court judge in New York has denied a motion from the New York State Gaming Commission seeking to have an appeal made by trainer Todd Pletcher moved to appellate court, in a ruling that will allow the judge to examine several legal issues raised by Pletcher’s legal defense.

R Calli Kim scratched from Orchid, will be retired

R Calli Kim was scratched out of Saturday's Orchid Stakes at Gulfstream and will be retired due to a tendon injury.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – R Calli Kim, who was entered to run in Saturday’s Grade 3, $200,000 Orchid Stakes at Gulfstream Park, has been retired from racing after injuring a tendon, trainer Brendan Walsh said Thursday.

“It needed time we just don’t have with her,” Walsh said. “It’s a shame. I thought we were going to have a big year with her.”

Santa Anita cancels Saturday, Sunday cards due to forecasted rain

Santa Anita has canceled its cards scheduled for Saturday and Sunday due to a forecast of heavy rain.

Santa Anita has canceled racing on Saturday and Sunday because of a forecast of extensive rain.

Track officials made the decision Thursday morning after monitoring expected conditions for the weekend. As much as three inches of rain may fall in Southern California.

“It looks like enough rain to mess up the weekend – and no turf racing,” track general manager Nate Newby said.

The track was to have one day of racing this week, on Friday.

Cox hoping Blue Grass is run over fast track

Both of Just a Touch's races have come over sloppy tracks. He is being pointed to the Blue Grass at Keeneland.

Just a Touch, who finished second as the favorite in the Grade 3 Gotham on March 2 at Aqueduct, will make his next start in the Grade 1, $1 million Blue Grass Stakes on April 6 at Keeneland, trainer Brad Cox confirmed Wednesday.

“It’s a Grade 1 and we just think it’s a very good spot for him,” Cox communicated via text.

Just a Touch, a son of 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify, was a 4 1/4-length winner of a six-furlong maiden race in the slop on Jan. 27 at Fair Grounds. He shipped to Aqueduct for the Gotham, where he was sent off the 8-5 favorite in an 11-horse field.

Two-for-two T O Password expected for Kentucky Derby

It does not take long to review the race record of T O Password, the Japan-based colt scheduled to start in the Kentucky Derby on May 4 at Churchill Downs.

Unbeaten in two starts, T O Password will be by far the least experienced runner in what is expected to be a field of 20.

T O Password earned a berth in the Kentucky Derby with a narrow win in his stakes debut in the $228,100 Fukuryu Stakes at about 1 1/8 miles at Nakayama Racecourse last Saturday.

Earlier this week, T O Password was confirmed as a probable starter for the Kentucky Derby by Churchill Downs.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Seize the Grey will get a chance to earn more Kentucky Derby points following his third-place finish in the Grade 3 Jeff Ruby Steaks last Saturday at Turfway Park.

Trainer D. Wayne Lukas said Tuesday the horse is scheduled to make his next start in the Grade 1, $1 million Blue Grass on April 6 at Keeneland.

Seize the Grey has 27 points for the Kentucky Derby and is 15th on the list administered by Churchill Downs.

Lukas said he was encouraged by Seize the Grey’s effort in the Ruby.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Stronghold’s impressive team work this week at Santa Anita solidified the Grade 3 Sunland Park Derby winner as a contender April 6 in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby.

Stronghold and jockey Antonio Fresu broke off behind graded turf stakes winners Gold Phoenix and Motorious in the March 25 drill, took dirt, angled outside, and ran past his older workmates in a blazing 58.40 seconds, the fastest five furlongs of the day.
