With Ryan Moore working hard on him, Sibelius just denies Switzerland a repeat victory in the Dubai Golden Shaheen on Saturday at Meydan.

Sibelius is 0 for 3 since scoring his signature victory last March in the Dubai Golden Shaheen.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Sibelius used a victory in the 2022 Mr. Prospector at Gulfstream Park as precursor to the most important win of his career several months later in the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen at Meydan. His trainer, Jeremiah O’Dwyer, is hoping history will repeat itself when he brings Sibelius back to defend his title Saturday against eight rivals in the Grade 3 fixture for older horses, which shares top billing on the 11-race program with its filly counterpart, the Grade 3 Sugar Swirl.

Implicated gets jockey Tyler Gaffalione aboard for her clash with Cairo Consort in Saturday's Tropical Park Oaks at Gulfstream.

Integration may not be the only 3-year-old male turf horse in trainer Shug McGaughey’s barn with a promising future.

Ohana Honor has improved significantly during the latter part of 2023, a year he will try to end with his first stakes victory in Saturday’s $125,000 Tropical Park Derby for 3-year-olds at Gulfstream Park.

Nash hype train rolls into Gun Runner

Coady Photography
Coming off a flashy 97 Beyer Speed Figure in his two-turn debut, Nash is expected to be a heavy favorite for Saturday's Gun Runner Stakes at Fair Grounds.

Trainer Brad Cox was offered a chance to pump the brakes on the hype train following Nash, the talented 2-year-old colt he trains for Godolphin. Perhaps folks were getting ahead of themselves making Nash, a twice-started colt with merely a maiden win atop his résumé, the third shortest individual betting choice last month in Pool 2 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Cox demurred.

“I hope not,” Cox said. “I like everything about the horse.”

McGaughey not rushing Change of Command

Lauren King
Change of Command, a flashy maiden winner, is likely to make his next start in an allowance race.

Trainer Shug McGaughey does not appear in a hurry to run impressive 2-year-old maiden winner Change of Command in a stakes race.

Change of Command, a 6 1/2-length winner of a seven-furlong maiden race on Sunday at Gulfstream, will likely make his next start in an allowance race, McGaughey said.

Change of Command, a son of Into Mischief who brought $1.05 million at auction, raced up close to the pace and drew clear while drifting out a tad to win handily. He ran seven furlongs in 1:25.02 and earned a 77 Beyer Speed Figure.

Undefeated Integration ‘a good possibility' for Pegasus World Cup Turf

Joe Labozzetta
Integration, unbeaten in three times, including two graded stakes victories, is likely for the Pegasus Gold Cup Turf.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Integration, the undefeated 3-year-old, is likely to run in the $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf on Jan. 27, trainer Shug McGaughey said Tuesday.

“I’m going to pencil it in. We’ll see how it comes up and how he’s doing. It’s a good possibility,” McGaughey said.

Integration, a son of Quality Road, is 3 for 3, with victories in the Grade 3 Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs and the Grade 2 Hill Prince at Aqueduct, the latter in which he equaled a 38-year turf course record.

Pletcher opts for softer Pegasus prep for Dynamic One

Debra A. Roma
Dynamic One, last seen finishing sixth in the 2022 Jockey Club Gold Cup, will return in an allowance race Friday at Gulfstream, prepping for a possible try at the Pegasus Gold Cup.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The Grade 3 Harlan’s Holiday here a week from Saturday is the traditional Gulfstream Park prep for the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational, but trainer Todd Pletcher has found another avenue to the big event for the idled Dynamic One. The 5-year-old will use Friday’s $72,000 allowance feature at a mile as a possible stepping-stone to the nine-furlong Pegasus on Jan. 27.

Walsh sets familiar path for Intricate, starting with Rachel Alexandra

Intricate, winner of the Grade 2 Golden Rod at Churchill Downs, will train up to the Rachel Alexandra Stakes at Fair Grounds.

Intricate, the 5 1/4-length winner of the Grade 2 Golden Rod Stakes last month at Churchill, is likely to make her 3-year-old debut in the Rachel Alexandra Stakes on Feb. 17, trainer Brendan Walsh said.

Intricate, a daughter of Gun Runner, was fifth in her sprint debut, captured a Keeneland maiden route second time out, and made short work of seven rivals in the Golden Rod on Nov. 25.

“We’re just keeping her ticking over down [at Fair Grounds] for the moment, light training,” Walsh said. “We’ll probably keep her fresh and go straight to the Rachel.”

The Alys Look, Hidden Connection square off in Broussard

Coady Photography
The Alys Look enters Friday's Broussard off an allowance win, returning from a layoff, and has to deal with morning-line favorite Hidden Connection.

Two fillies who traveled the New Orleans route to the Kentucky Oaks meet Friday at Fair Grounds in the $100,000 Joseph E. “Spanky” Broussard Memorial.

The Alys Look earlier this year won the Silverbulletday at Fair Grounds and went on to finish third in the Oaks. In 2022, Hidden Connection just missed winning the Fair Grounds Oaks before a subpar 12th in the Oaks.

Wilson's plan pays off with tremendous start at meet

Ann Switalski / Ann Switalski Photography
Trainer Shane Wilson is currently atop the Fair Grounds trainer standings with 15 wins, six more than second-place Joe Sharp.

Shane Wilson has won the last three training titles at Louisiana Downs. His ascendance in Bossier City now has cut kitty-corner across Louisiana to New Orleans.

Through Sunday, Wilson had 15 Fair Grounds winners, nine more than Joe Sharp, whose six winners rank second among Fair Grounds trainers. Wilson’s volume of runners has been as surprising as his winners: Just 17 days into the 2023-24 season, Wilson already had 80 starters, 35 more than the next-highest total.
