Trained by Bob Baffert, Nothing Like You was an upset winner of last Saturday's Grade 2 Santa Anita Oaks.

ARCADIA, Calif. – The Grade 2 Santa Anita Oaks on Saturday did not produce any expected starters for the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs on May 3.

Race winner Nothing Like You, who paid $16.40, and runner-up Kinza, the 1-2 favorite, are trained by Bob Baffert, who is currently banned from having runners at Churchill Downs by that track’s management.

Corposo, who finished third by eight lengths in her stakes debut, earned 25 qualifying points, and ranks 26th on the list of eligible fillies for the Kentucky Oaks. Only 14 will start in the Kentucky Oaks.

Alotaluck brings solid form into Mine That Bird Derby

Coady Photography
Mine That Star won last year's Sunland Park Handicap, earning a 90 Beyer Speed Figure.

Alotaluck will be a short-priced favorite to accomplish what his dam did – win a derby – when he starts in Sunday’s $125,000 Mine That Bird Derby on the closing day card at Sunland Park in New Mexico.

Alotaluck is out of the mare Colinda Dawn, who defeated males by nine lengths in the 2015 running of the Colorado Derby at Arapahoe Park.

It was held at the same 1 1/16-mile distance of the Mine That Bird Derby, which is one of five stakes on Sunday’s card. The richest of the offerings is the $200,000 Sunland Park Handicap, with the stakes worth a total of $650,000.

Carimba, shown winning at Churchill Downs, has an excellent record at Horseshoe Indianapolis. She is entered in the Total Eclipse of the Heart Stakes on opening day.

Opening day will be a dark day at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Monday.

Horseshoe Indianapolis, which is located in Shelbyville, Ind., scheduled its opening day on a Monday this year because the track lies directly in the path of Monday’s total solar eclipse, an event that will not reoccur in North America until 2044. And they’re making the most of it.

Heart Headed primed for second turf start in John Shear

Benoit Photo
Angels Flight contender Antifona beat three of her Sunday rivals on the hillside course in the Sweet Life Stakes on Feb. 11.

Heart Headed, bought for $135,000 at auction last November, may turn out to be a steal for Hronis Racing and trainer John Sadler.

After a win in a starter allowance on dirt at Santa Anita in his California debut in January, Heart Headed finished a game second by a head in the Baffle Stakes on the hillside turf course in February in his first start on the surface.

The narrow loss leaves Heart Headed as the favorite in Sunday’s $100,000 John Shear Stakes for 3-year-olds at about 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside course.

Accretive didn't run well last time out but Chad Brown believes he was bothered by kickback.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Accretive and Maker’s Candy look to rebound from recent disappointing efforts when they are two of six horses entered to run a mile in a third-level allowance that serves as the feature on Sunday’s eight-race Aqueduct card.

Accretive, trained by Chad Brown, won two allowance races last summer before finishing second to Cody’s Wish in the Grade 2 Vosburgh and third to Everso Mischievous in the Grade 2 Forty Niner, both at Aqueduct.
