In her first start in six months, She Feels Pretty won Pimlico’s Hilltop Stakes by 5 3/4 lengths.

Grade 1 winner She Feels Pretty has returned to trainer Cherie DeVaux’s barn at Keeneland, following her dominant season-opening victory in the $100,000 Hilltop Stakes on Friday at Pimlico. After a summer stint in New York, her major late-season goal will be right back here at Keeneland.

“The big one would be the Queen Elizabeth in the fall,” DeVaux said. “A filly like this, it’s hard not to use that as the target instead of a Breeders’ Cup, so right now, that’s probably our long-term goal for this year.”

Messier was a last-out winner of the Grade 3 Westchester Stakes at Aqueduct.

Messier, winner of the Grade 3 Westchester Stakes on May 3 at Aqueduct, recently underwent surgery to remove a knee chip, according to his connections, who hope to get him back later this year.

“We hope to get him back the same away,” trainer Rick Dutrow said. “It’s his second knee operation. He’s had two throat operations and he’s had a colic operation. I don’t know how many horses have five operations and keep going.

Sir Barton top pair will skip Belmont

Susie Raisher
Corporate Power (left) bested Gould's Gold (right) in the Sir Barton and the pair are not expected to target the Belmont Stakes.

Corporate Power and Gould’s Gold, separated by a nose at the wire of Saturday’s Sir Barton Stakes at Pimlico, will likely be graded stakes-bound at some point this summer, but neither are targeting the Belmont Stakes on June 8.

Shug McGaughey, trainer of Corporate Power, said his horse “still has a lot to learn,” but he was naturally pleased with the outcome Saturday.

“He’s coming along, he showed he’s got some ability,” McGaughey said. “He needs to race and learn. He’s spotty in his races. I think he wants to go a little farther than that on his best race, too.”

Speaking, a 5-year-old gelding by Mr Speaker out of High Noon Nellie, by Silver Deputy, won the $85,000 John J. Reilly Handicap a year ago returning from a 10-week layoff. This time, he starts as the 124-pound highweight going six furlongs on dirt in his first outing since Aug. 23.

King of Gosford is 2 for 2 since being imported from Ireland. The Desert Code could set him up for the Oceanside Stakes at Del Mar.

The $100,000 Desert Code Stakes for 3-year-olds turf sprinters at Santa Anita on Sunday is as much a prep to a popular summer race as it is a chance for a $60,000 first-place purse this weekend.

The Desert Code, run at about 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course, could easily produce starters for the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes at a mile on turf at Del Mar on the track’s opening day, July 20.
