Scottish Lassie may race in the Davona Dale and Gulfstream Park Oaks as trainer Jorge Abreu tries to get her to the Kentucky Oaks.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Scottish Lassie, fourth as the second choice in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, is getting a month off at a farm in Ocala, Fla., and then will likely use the South Florida road to the Kentucky Oaks, trainer Jorge Abreu said Friday.

Scottish Lassie won the Grade 1 Frizette by nine lengths at Aqueduct in October. Sent off the second choice in the Breeders’ Cup, Scottish Lassie might have moved a little too soon into a hot pace under Jose Lezcano and that likely cost her late as she finished fourth, seven lengths behind the winner, Immersive.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Saffie Joseph Jr. checked off another very important box on his trainer’s to-do list last Saturday at Del Mar, the one that says Breeders’ Cup winner, when Soul of an Angel rallied from far back to upset the Filly and Mare Sprint.

“It feels good,” Joseph responded when asked to describe his feelings about becoming a Breeders’ Cup winner for the first time. “Thankfully I was able to accomplish that with Soul of an Angel and get that out of the way. Hopefully, there will be many more to come in the future.”

Delahaye best of Brown trio this time in Forever Together

Coady Media
Delahaye looks best of a Chad Brown-trained trio for Sunday's Forever Together at Aqueduct.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Delahaye has been overshadowed by better and faster barnmates in stakes races recently, but she looks to be the strongest part of trainer Chad Brown’s three-ply, uncoupled entry in Sunday’s $135,000 Forever Together Stakes at Aqueduct.

Delahaye is already a two-time stakes winner this year, having captured the Tom Benson Memorial at Fair Grounds in March and the Grade 3 Mint Julep at Churchill Downs in June. In her three stakes defeats this year, Delahaye finished behind stablemates Beaute Cachee (twice) and Chili Flag, each Grade 1 winners.

Pushiness has pace advantage over Chismosa in Betty Grable Stakes

Chismosa wins Desert Stormer at SA June 2 2024

Classy late-runner Chismosa will have to find a way to run down Pushiness in the seven-furlong Betty Grable.

Two stakes-winning fillies with an affinity for Del Mar and opposite styles of running may dominate betting in the $100,000 Betty Grable Stakes on Sunday. Only one of the two fillies is positioned to dominate the race.

Pushiness figures to be loose on the lead in the filly-mare California-bred stakes. If the front-runner carries her speed seven furlongs, the race is over. If not, then late-runner Chismosa may rally for the win. It seems straightforward, which is how speedster Pushiness runs and trains.
