Brad Cox will likely be represented by Fair Grounds-based Disco Time in the Lecomte Stakes on Jan. 18.

It’s not like Brad Cox has abandoned Fair Grounds. He has a full barn of horses stabled in New Orleans, and entering this week’s racing was 10 for 32 at the meet, his win total second among trainers behind Steve Asmussen’s 12. Yet more and more of Cox’s top horses have been showing up on the work tab not at Fair Grounds but at the Payson Park training center in Florida, where Cox, for the first time, has bedded down a winter string.

Shortening up, Miss Lao meets Mosienko again

Barbara D. Livingston
Miss Lao will shorten up to six furlongs for Friday's featured eighth race at Aqueduct.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – For nearly three years, Mosienko was the horse in trainer Dennis Lalman’s one-horse stable. Acquired in the summer of 2021, Mosienko won eight races from 30 starts for Lalman and his daughter Stacy, highlighted by a four-race winning streak from Aug. 6 to Oct. 6, 2022.

Last May, Mosienko was claimed from the Lalmans for $62,500 by David Jacobson. The now 8-year-old mare has since been claimed by Rick Dutrow and, more recently, Ilkay Kantarmaci.
