ARCADIA, Calif. – Warren’s Showtime rumbled along the rail in early stretch of the $202,000 California Cup Oaks for 3-year-old statebred fillies on turf at Santa Anita last Saturday and won by 3 1/2 lengths.

She will run next in the $75,000 China Doll Stakes against open company at a mile on turf on March 7, trainer Craig Lewis said.

Lewis was resting at home on Monday morning, still a bit sore after saddling a fractious Warren’s Showtime before the Cal Cup Oaks.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Santa Anita will not race on Feb. 13 in an effort to boost field sizes in coming weeks, according to racing secretary Steve Lym.

The track was scheduled to race from Thursday, Feb. 13, through Monday, Feb. 17, that week, but will instead run Friday through Monday, which is Presidents Day.

This week, Santa Anita will run Friday through Sunday, followed by two Thursday through Sunday weeks. Santa Anita will race Friday-Sunday, Feb. 21-23, Lym said.

Santa Anita will run Thursday through Sunday for the last week of February and through March and April.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Oaklawn Park opens its meet Friday with a number of quality 3-year-olds in place, including Three Technique who makes his stakes debut on the card’s $150,000 Smarty Jones.

His trainer, New York-based Jeremiah Englehart, said the opportunities for young runners was one of the reasons he has set up a 24-horse division at Oaklawn. The 3-year-old offerings build all meet toward the Grade 1, $1 million Arkansas Derby on April 11 and the Grade 3, $600,000 Fantasy for fillies on April 10.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Gulfstream has announced that its ever-burgeoning Rainbow 6 jackpot will be subject to a mandatory disbursement Sunday. Into Thursday, the carryover stood at more than $3.1 million, with no solo winners having swept the jackpot during 38 preceding days of racing.

Two years ago, a Rainbow 6 forceout was held the day after the Pegasus when a carryover of nearly $4 million enticed new wagers of $15,788,225, a one-day North American record for a pick six. Winning tickets returned $15,566.10.

The Sunday card will be drawn Thursday.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Florida-based trainer Wesley Ward said that Four Wheel Drive, who capped an unbeaten season by winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint last November, has resumed training with his Keeneland string and is being pointed to the Palisades on opening day of the spring meet, April 2.

“We started him back the day after Christmas,” Ward said from Palm Meadows. “He’ll probably have his first breeze up there next week.”

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Concrete Rose, who won four straight stakes last year, returned last week to the care of trainer Rusty Arnold at the Palm Meadows training center. The 4-year-old daughter of Twirling Candy underwent minor surgery for a hairline fracture in her right knee after being injured in August.

“She looks great and there are no issues,” said Arnold, adding his first goal is the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley on April 4 at Keeneland. “We’re very happy with her.”

Concrete Rose, owned by Ashbrook Farm and BBN Racing, has won six of seven starts and more than $1.2 million.

Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile winner Spun to Run worked four furlongs in 47.51 at Palm Meadows late Tuesday morning and picked up Javier Castellano as his rider for Saturday's $3 million Pegasus World Cup.

Spun to Run posted early splits of 24.34 and 36.00 before galloping out five-eighths in 1:00.75, according to Daily Racing Form clocker Donald Harris.

"I didn't think he went that fast, but he makes it look so easy," said trainer Juan Carlos Guerrero said.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Sir Winston, the 2019 Belmont Stakes winner, on Monday was one of eight horses entered in Saturday’s $100,000 Jazil Stakes, but his starting status won’t be known until closer to race day.

On Jan. 16, Sir Winston threw the shoe off his left front foot in a five-furlong workout over Belmont Park’s training track. Sir Winston was a little tender on that foot over the weekend. On Monday, he was equipped with glue-on shoes on both front feet and would wear them for the first time in a race should he run.

ARCADIA, Calif. – The Grade 1 winner Hard Not to Love and the promising 3-year-old Honor A. P. were among notable horses to work at Santa Anita on Monday.

Hard Not to Love, who won the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at seven furlongs on Dec. 28, worked five furlongs in 1:01. Trained by John Shirreffs, Hard Not to Love is a candidate for the Grade 2 Santa Monica Stakes against older fillies and mares at seven furlongs on Feb. 15.

NEW ORLEANS – On the Beyer Speed Figure scale, Blackberry Wine was the fastest 3-year-old Saturday at Fair Grounds. Beating favored Digital by one length in a first-level allowance, Blackberry Wine ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.22, earning a 94 Beyer.

Blackberry Wine now is 6-2-0-3, his wins coming in his only two dirt routes. Last fall, Blackberry Wine led all the way in a sloppy-track maiden route at Churchill. In his start before Saturday’s, he ran third in an allowance race on yielding turf at Fair Grounds.
