Hastings: Collect Call proves a bargain

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Heads turned when Rod and Lorraine Rodriguez spent the highest price ever in a Washington State Sale for Collect Call in the Marshall Naify Dispersal Sale last August. The price tag of $250,000 seemed like a lot of money for a 2-year-old filly who had just finished third in a minor stakes at Emerald Downs.

It turns out she was a bargain for the Rodriguez family and with the $105,000 Collect Call ($2.90) took home winning the British Columbia Breeders' Cup Oaks at Hastings Park, her total earnings are now $379,055.

Unbeaten duo could be singles in carryover

ELMONT, N.Y.- A pair of undefeated 3-year-old fillies will be the focal point Wednesday for bettors chasing a pick-six carryover of $56,238 at Belmont Park.

Descapate, who faces four rivals in a second-level allowance that goes as race four, and Blinded by Love, who tops a seven-horse field entered in a preliminary allowance heat in race eight, figure to be on most pick-six tickets. The question is, will handicappers need to go any deeper in those races?
