Keeneland: Dead heat in Valley View

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Cozzy Corner and Chausson Poire finished in a dead heat for first in the Grade 3, $113,600 Valley View Stakes at Keeneland.

Sky Alliance led early in the Valley View, a 1 1/16-mile turf race, followed closely by La Recherche. Entering the stretch, Cozzy Corner ($7.80), ridden by Lonnie Meche, made a big outside move to draw off to an imposing lead, but Chausson Poire ($7) was able to draw even on the wire. Quick Tip finished third, only a neck back.

The dead heat for win was the fourth in Keeneland stakes history.- Marty McGee

Thompson has six-win night again

ANDERSON, Ind. - Jockey Terry Thompson equaled his career best and a Hoosier Park record with six wins Saturday night, a feat he also accomplished on the previous Saturday card.

Thompson, opened with both ends of the daily double aboard Pineingmyheartaway ($5.20) and War's Last Secret ($5) for a $13.80 double. He followed up with wins aboard Danceforjove ($7) in the fourth, Beyers Fortune ($13.20) in the seventh, Go to Harvard ($4.20) in the ninth, and Stephie's Gold ($4.40) in the 11th.

Carrero out 8-12 weeks

ELMONT, N.Y. - Victor Carrero, one of the leading apprentice jockeys in the country, will be out two to three months after breaking his left ankle during a gate mishap Sunday at Belmont Park.

Carrero was aboard Showtime in the third race when that horse acted up in the gate and threw Carrero. Carrero was taken off the track on a stretcher and taken via ambulance to North Shore Hospital. He was fitted with a cast, and was to have surgery on Monday.

Favorite No Comprende understands how to win

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - No Comprende has quite a following. He has been the favorite in each of his three starts since returning from a summer layoff, and has kept his backers happy for the most part by crossing the wire on top on all three occasions.

No Comprende will move up to the second allowance level in Wednesday's Woodbine feature, and should be well backed again. A competitive field of nine is entered for the 1 1/16-mile race for $62,500 optional claimers.

No stopping Decarchy

ARCADIA, Calif. - As Bobby Frankel aims for his first Breeders' Cup win Saturday at Belmont Park, his rapidly improving turf horse Decarchy is making it look all too easy in California. A lightly raced 4-year-old, Decarchy is marching through his conditions with ease, and will start as one of the shortest prices on the Oak Tree card when he meets five others in Wednesday's seventh-race feature.

Magic Doe and Mr. Motel

CHICAGO - Magic Doe has shown talent since he first arrived on the Chicago racing scene several years ago. Very few living souls can remember when trainer Jim Eckrosh first showed up on the Chicago racing scene. Late this summer Magic Doe, a 6-year-old gelding, got Lasix for the first time in 54 career starts, and since then he has given the 92-year-old Eckrosh a pair of wins at Arlington Park.

'Sandy' finishes 2nd, but sets record

ELMONT, N.Y. - A tough trip denied Say Florida Sandy a win in Sunday's $125,000 Hudson Handicap at Belmont Park on the New York Showcase Fall Festival card, but he was still able to make history by finishing second.

Say Florida Sandy became the all-time leading New York-bred money earner with his second-place finish behind Impeachthepro in the Hudson. Sandy, who now has $1,750,926 in earnings from 77 trips to the starting gate, surpassed L'Carriere, who had held the top spot.

Third straight Classic for Mr Ross

OKLAHOMA CITY - Mr Ross won his third consecutive Classic Stakes by a commanding 10 3/4 lengths Sunday at Remington Park. The $90,000 race was the richest of seven statebred stakes at the track that made up the ninth annual Oklahoma Classics Day.

Mr Ross raced about eight lengths behind his stablemate, Peyvon, who held for second after running the opening six furlongs of the 1 1/16-mile race in 1:10.88. Mr Ross overtook Peyvon at the top of the stretch then cruised home, covering the distance over a fast track in 1:44.09.

Scottish Halo takes Empire Classic

ELMONT, N.Y. - Even though Scottish Halo was good enough to win stakes at age 2, trainer Paul Rizzo always believed the colt would be better as he got older.

Rizzo's assessment proved correct as Scottish Halo won his richest race Sunday, rallying past Duplicitous in the final 100 yards to take the $250,000 Empire Classic Handicap by 1 3/4 lengths before 8,725 at Belmont Park. The Empire Classic was the featured event on the second day of the New York Showcase Fall Festival, which included seven stakes for New York-bred with purses totaling $1 million.

Look of the Lynx by 1 1/2 in Half Moon

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Look of the Lynx scooted to a second straight win while upsetting two graded stakes winners with a speedy 1 1/2-length victory in the $100,000 Half Moon Stakes Saturday at the Meadowlands.

Ridden by Richard Migliore, the 3-year-old filly won for the fourth time in ten starts while earning her first stakes over fellow longshot Arianna's Passion in 1:08.51. Floral Park Handicap winner Gold Mover finished third while 6-5 favorite Stormy Pick struggled in fifth over a lightning fast

track.
