A four-win day isn't Lovato's best

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Jockey Anthony Lovato has a knack for winning races in bunches. Saturday at Lone Star Park Lovato won four races, including the Grade 3, $300,000 Texas Mile with Unrullah Bull.

Lovato had another big day a month ago at Oaklawn Park when he won five races on March 29, including the $50,000 Hot Springs Stakes with Beau's Town. And last year, Lovato bagged six wins on a single card at Lone Star on July 3, his biggest win coming aboard Royal Spy in the $125,000 Grand Prairie Turf Challenge.

Quantity trumps quality

SAN MATEO, Calif. - If you want to catch the feature race at Bay Meadows on Wednesday, get there early.

The day's feature will be run as the first race on the eight-race card. It's a $40,000 optional claimer at six furlongs for 3-year-old fillies.

It is the feature because it is the best race of the day. The reason that it will run as the first race is because only five were entered, and in today's world of racing, with exotics on every race, field size is extremely important in race placement.
