Luis Saez not traveling to Fair Grounds, Dubai

Jockey Luis Saez will skip trips to Louisiana and Dubai due to concerns about the coronavirus.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Jockey Luis Saez has made the decision not to travel to Fair Grounds this weekend for the Louisiana Derby program or fly to Dubai the following week for the rich Dubai World Cup card, his agent, Richard Depass, revealed Monday.

CHRB files complaints on eight individuals in regard to last year's spike in fatalities

The California Horse Racing Board on Monday filed complaints against eight individuals, ranging from veterinarians to trainers, alleging violations emanating from a report issued last week about the spike in fatalities that plagued Santa Anita one year ago.

Aqueduct will continue to race without spectators

Aqueduct will resume racing as scheduled on Friday without fans on-site.

While many businesses in and around the New York metropolitan area will be shutting down due to the coronavirus pandemic, plans call for live racing to continue at Aqueduct, though with increased restrictions, the New York Racing Association announced Monday.

Aqueduct, which raced three days last week without fans ontrack, is scheduled to hold an eight-race card Friday. Aqueduct is scheduled to race Fridays through Sundays through March. Aqueduct has 13 cards scheduled in April before racing is scheduled to move to Belmont Park on April 24.

Monmouth to delay opening of meet by three weeks because of coronavirus

Racetracks in New Jersey planned to shut down for operations as of 8 p.m. on Monday night, and Monmouth Park has delayed the opening of its 2020 meet by three weeks, according to announcements from the tracks.

The Meadowlands and Monmouth were both scheduled to shut their racebooks as of Monday night, and both the Meadowlands and Freehold Raceway said they would suspend their live harness racing meets. The decision came after the Centers for Disease Control issued a warning on Sunday night to limit public gatherings to 50 people or fewer.

Hot Springs honors ‘equine ambassador' Chindi

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Chindi, the 26-year-old millionaire sprinter who works as a stable pony for trainer Steve Hobby, received a special honor on Sunday at Oaklawn Park. He was feted after the seventh race, with a proclamation from Hot Springs mayor Pat McCabe.

McCabe declared Sunday as Chindi Day in Hot Springs. Oaklawn’s senior vice president, Eric Jackson, read the proclamation in the winner’s circle as Chindi looked on, standing at attention and listening to every word. McCabe wrote that Chindi was an “equine ambassador” for Oaklawn.

Casino and race book closed at Hastings, but training continues for upcoming meet

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Great Canadian Gaming Corporation announced Sunday that the casino and race book at Hastings will be closed until further notice because of the coronavirus outbreak. Hastings is one of 10 casinos Great Canadian operates in British Columbia. All 10 have been temporarily closed in response to the outbreak.

He came back a week later and finished a disappointing fifth in the Tampa Bay Derby. Lynn’s Map was scratched from the Jan. 18 Lecomte Stakes at Fair Grounds after drawing post 14. He returned six days later and finished a disappointing fifth in the Smarty Jones at Oaklawn Park. Now, Modernist, winner of the second division of the Risen Star Stakes on Feb.
