Coady Photography
Anneau d'Or ran fifth in a division of the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn on May 2.

Anneau d’Or, winless in three races, all graded stakes, since a narrow loss in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last November, will start in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby on June 6, trainer Blaine Wright said earlier this week.

Anneau d’Or was considered a candidate for the Santa Anita Derby on its original date of April 4, but the race was postponed when the track was ordered closed in late March because of the coronavirus pandemic. Santa Anita reopened on May 15.

Rushing Fall runs in Beaugay as mare on a mission

Barbara D. Livingston
Rushing Fall is being pointed to the Grade 3 Beaugay on June 3, opening day of the Belmont meet.

ELMONT, N.Y. – Though Rushing Fall certainly has a résumé that would make her extremely valuable as a broodmare, owner Bob Edwards said it was a simple decision to bring the four-time Grade 1-winning mare back for a 5-year-old campaign.

“Because horse racing’s fun,” Edwards said Thursday from Florida. “Had I known we were going to have a pandemic it might have been a different story, but I love racing. That’s why we kept her.”

Equine herpesvurus outbreak appears contained but two more horses test positive

Michael Burns
No turf races are scheduled for the next condition book, which begins on Nov. 13.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario said in a Wednesday release that an outbreak of equine herpesvirus (EHV-1) on the Woodbine backstretch appears to be contained.

“The mitigation strategies that have been put in place appear to be working, and the retesting efforts will confirm this status,” the release said. “The AGCO is continuing to monitor the situation closely, and new significant developments will be reported in upcoming notices.”

The positive cases have been limited to Barn 12, and a single horse in Barn 10.
