Premium Saltine took the lead inside rivals entering the stretch, and the five-horse Sprint field was separated by less than two lengths with a furlong to run, before the top pair kicked clear.
INGLEWOOD, Calif. - A day after she was scratched from the $750,000 American Oaks, Louvain won a consolation of sorts, Monday's $112,900 at Hollywood Park.
Sent off favored in a field 11 3-year-old fillies, Louvain ($5.80) overcame trouble on the backstretch to win by 1 1-2 lengths over Royal Copenhagen. Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Louvain finished a mile on turf in 1:34.49. Island Escape, a 10-1 shot, finished third after leading in the stretch.
PLEASANTON, Calif. - Getting a ground-saving stalking trip, Secret Corsage ($8) wore down pacesetting Platinum Princess in the stretch to win the $51,000 Alameda County Fillies and Mares Handicap at the Alameda County Fair on Monday.
Secret Corsage's two-length victory in the 1 1/16 mile race gave jockey Chad Schvaneveldt a sweep of the weekend stakes races. He also won the Juan Gonzalez on Saturday with Hystericalady and the Everett Nevin Alameda County Futurity aboard Don Jaun Con on Sunday.
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Jockey Casey Lambert was taken to Methodist Hospital in Dallas for treatment for a broken jaw, fractured ribs and punctured lung after a spill in the ninth race Monday at Lone Star Park. Lambert was injured when his mount, Eunever, broke down near the quarter pole. He was listed in stable condition as of Monday night, according to Eddie Rodriguez, the assistant chaplain at Lone Star who was with some family members at Methodist Hospital.
ELMONT, N.Y. - At the beginning of 2005, Roman Ruler was considered one of the top 3-year-olds in the country. Judging by Monday's $150,000 at Belmont Park, there is still time for Roman Ruler to live up to that billing.
The first six months of his 3-year-old season a waste, Roman Ruler began making up for lost time with a professional half-length victory over Flower Alley in the Grade 2 Dwyer before a July Fourth crowd of 8,833 at Belmont Park.

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Short rest was no problem for the unbeaten Joey P. in the Grade 3, $150,000 for 3-year-olds Monday at Monmouth Park.
Joey P. ($11) won his fifth race with a stakes-record performance. He ran the six furlongs in 1:08.30, lowering the mark of 1:08.40 set by Sprint Champion Smoke Glacken in 1997 and Yes It's True in 1999.
It also capped a stellar holiday weekend at Monmouth for Jersey-bred winners of graded stakes. Joey P. joined Smart N Classy, who took the Grade 3 Eatontown Handicap on Sunday.
FORT ERIE, Ontario - Ready and Alluring was both of those things Monday, romping to an authoritative 4 1/2-length victory in the $250,000 at Fort Erie.
She was ready after finishing second in her stakes debut in the Woodbine Oaks, and alluring to the Fort Erie bettors, who pounded her down to 1-5. Ready and Alluring was clocked in a rapid 1:43.15 for 1 1/16 miles, one second off the track record.
Keep Cool was allowed to set an uncontested pace and made the most of the opportunity, outlasting Bob's Proud Moment to register a one-length victory in Monday's $100,000 at Calder.
Keep Cool took command shortly after the start of the 1 1/8-mile Mecke and was rated to perfection on the lead by regular rider Jose Rivera II. Bob's Proud Moment chased the winner most of the way and took one last run at the leader through the final furlong, but was second best. Demeteor rallied mildly to finish third.
