Buzzards Bay coming to Stephen Foster

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Buzzards Bay is coming to the Stephen Foster Handicap. Trainer Ron Ellis has decided that circumstances were right to send the colt on a charter flight Monday to Churchill Downs, where the colt will be a co-topweight and quite possibly the favorite Saturday in the Grade 1 Foster.

Hystericalady captures BC Oaks

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Last summer at Del Mar, jockey Patrick Valenzuela thought he had a stakes-winning mount with Hystericalady, an invader from northern California. It turns out he was off by about 10 months.

While Hystericalady finished a disappointing sixth under Valenzuela in the Sorrento Stakes at Del Mar last August, she easily won Sunday's $152,400 Hollywood Breeders' Cup Oaks at Hollywood Park.

Leading throughout, Hystericalady ($16.40) set early fractions of 23.73 and 47.10 seconds and won by 7 1-2 lengths in her first start around two turns.

Jockey Rollins critically injured

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Jockey Chance Rollins was in critical condition in Stanford Hospital suffering from bleeding in his brain stem in the back of his brain after being thrown over the rail during Sunday's third race at Bay Meadows.

The 36-year-old rider was aboard odds-on favorite Dr. Ramos when the 5-year-old gelding veered in sharply in the opening eighth of a mile just before the 15/16ths pole. Rollins appeared to bail off the runner and landed with one foot on the safety rail before somersaulting and falling on his side on the hardpan dirt inside the rail.

Kimchi hangs on in Woodbine Oaks

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Kimchi circled three wide into contention on the far turn and then held off Sweet Breanna in the final furlong to win the $502,000 Woodbine Oaks on Sunday.

Kimchi saved ground on the first turn before jockey Patrick Husbands angled her wide for the run down the backstretch. Seductively set quick fractions of 23.10 seconds, 46.97, and 1:11.83, with Sweet Breanna and Executive Flight in close pursuit.

Dubai Escapade victorious in Vagrancy

A showdown between the two top female sprinters on the East Coast turned into a mismatch Sunday afternoon at Belmont Park as Dubai Escapade turned back a challenge from Smokey Glacken at the quarter pole and drew clear for an emphatic six-length victory in the Grade 2, $150,000 .

High Button Shoes rallied for second by a head over Magnolia Jackson. It was one-half length back to Grecian Lover and another half-length to a tiring Smokey Glacken in fifth. Leave Me Alone finished last.

Pretty Jane best in Excitable Lady

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Pretty Jane, ridden by Brice Blanc, overtook a pair of pace-setting favorites in deep stretch to post a 19-1 upset in the feature race Saturday at Churchill Downs, the $68,200 Excitable Lady overnight handicap.

Owned by Garrett Redmond and trained by Eduardo Caramori, Pretty Jane was last for much of the five-furlong turf race before rolling past her seven rivals, including Unbridled Sidney, the 6-5 favorite, and Nicole's Dream, the 5-2 second choice, in the final 100 yards.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Be a Resident won a photo over 4-5 favorite Datrick to capture the $99,649 colts and geldings division of the Texas Thoroughbred Association Sales Futurity by a nose at Lone Star Park on Saturday. It was another length and a quarter back in third to Austin Lights.

The race was one of two stakes on the card, the other the $111,330 fillies division of the TTA Sales Futurity, which was won by Miss Mary Pat ($5.40).

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Strong Faith ($10.40), compromised by a wide trip in her last start, was able to save ground and made a strong move in the lane to win a three-way photo in the $69,050 Hillsborough Handicap at Bay Meadows on Saturday.

"When you have turf horses, you have to have a good trip, especially with a closer," winning trainer John Martin said. "The mare is doing so well, she just needed some luck, and we got the luck we needed to get up in time."
