Gouldings Green wins the Grade 3, $151,600 Chinese Cultural Centre Seagram Cup Stakes at Woodbine Sunday.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Gouldings Green ($3.60) shipped in from Saratoga to capture the Grade 3, $151,600 at Woodbine Sunday.

After breaking from post 1, Gouldings Green assumed an inside stalking position in the mile and a sixteenth route over the inner track. Longshots Northern Candy and Roving Angel vied up front, and the latter took control on the far turn after fractions of :22.78 and :46.94 seconds.

AUBURN, Wash. - Dinner At Arlene's took advantage of a costly mistake by heavily favored A Classic Life and won Saturday's $40,000 Boeing Handicap by 1 1-2 lengths over Queenledo. Gins Majesty got up for third and A Classic Life salvaged fourth after breaking eight to ten lengths behind her five rivals.

Bond Deal victorious in Luther Burbank

SANTA ROSA, Calif. - Irish-bred Bond Deal ($3.20) sat off the pace before pulling away late as she captured the $50,900 Luther Burbank Handicap at the Sonoma County Fair on Saturday.

The 5-year-old mare, a stakes winner in Italy, won her first U.S. stakes by 2 3/4 lengths over second choice Bend, the only rival she led during the first half of the 1 1/16-mile turf race. The winning time was 1:42.53.

"(Jockey Catalino Martinez) did a nice job," winning owner David Mueller said. "We told him to sit behind the speed and make one late run."

Undefeated Bro Lo returns from long layoff

DEL MAR, Calif. - After going unbeaten in two starts at the 2005 Del Mar meeting, expectations are high for 's return from an 11-month layoff in an optional claimer Monday.

Last year, Bro Lo was one of the most exciting 2-year-olds in California. By In Excess, he won a maiden race by eight lengths and the I'm Smokin Stakes for 2-year-old California-breds by 7 1/2 lengths. He was being considered for the Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park last fall, when he was diagnosed with a bone chip in an ankle, trainer Doug O'Neill said. The injury required surgery.

Bernardini's encore leaves no doubt

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - For those who missed Bernardini's brilliant effort in the Preakness, he provided an encore performance in Saturday's Grade 2, $500,000 before a crowd of 24,944 at sloppy Saratoga.

Taking command from the outset under Javier Castellano, Bernardini splashed his way to a nine-length victory over Minister's Bid without, as track announcer Tom Durkin exclaimed "breaking a sweat!"

The victory more than validated Bernardini's Preakness score, which was greatly overshadowed by the career-ending injury suffered by Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - Suave returned to his best form from 2005, denying Perfect Drift a third victory in the at Arlington Park while setting a track record here on a steamy Saturday afternoon.

Suave rated just behind a fast pace set by the longshot Iosilver, took over coming into the stretch, and drew away late to score by five lengths, a performance that was as impressive against the clock as it was visually.

Angara on time - twice in the same day

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - At 5 a.m. Saturday, Angara walked out of her stall at Belmont Park and boarded a van bound for Saratoga. She made it to trainer Bill Mott's barn less than 90 minutes before she had to report to the New York Racing Association's race-day security barn.

It wasn't the only close call she would have on the day.
