ELMONT, N.Y. - Bushfire was a multiple Grade 1 winner this year before Pine Island had even started in a stakes race. But there's little doubt now that Pine Island has at least caught up to Bushfire in the 3-year-old filly division.

It doesn't seem to matter what class level Hi Time Scott is placed, so long has he gets to run a one-turn mile at Laurel Park.

Making the steep class-rise from a $7,500 starter allowance to the $100,000 Charles Hadry, the 6-year-old Hi Time Scott ($9) overtook Sinister G at the eighth pole and drew clear to a five-length victory.

Ridden by Joe Rocco Jr. for trainer William Downing, Hi Time Scott is now 4 for 6 lifetime at Laurel. In addition to taking the starter allowance by four lengths on

Hide and Chic, who won her first turf start in the Aug. 7 Royal North Stakes, scored over another new surface, Woodbine's recently installed Polytrack, in the Grade 3 .

Hide and Chic stalked a lively pace set by favored Maryfield until the head of the stretch. She overtook that rival nearing the eighth pole, and then drew clear for a two-length win, in a quick final time of 1:16.88.

Ahead of Her Time survived a stewards' inquiry and picked up her first stakes win in the $50,000 Princess Stakes at Louisiana Downs.

Ramblin Sally crossed the wire in second, followed by Mom's Delight and Stormin Quality.

Biglie Smallworld ($12.40) overcame some early traffic trouble and rallied to score a 2 1/4-length victory over Tricky Mon in the $40,000 Prairie Meadows Freshman.

Biglie Smallworld, under jockey Glenn Corbett, was forced to steady shortly after the start and trailed the field before launching a four-wide rally on the turn. Biglie Smallworld drew clear in the final sixteenth and finished the six furlongs in 1:10.64. The 8-5 favorite, Tricky Mon, rallied in tandem with the winner on the turn and took second place, a neck in front of pacesetter Jack Grant.

Due to some concerns with the turf courses at Belmont Park, three of the five scheduled grass races on Sunday's card have been moved to the dirt, New York Racing Association officials announced late Saturday.

The first, fourth, and 10th races on the card will all be run on the dirt at the same distances for which they were carded on the turf.

The sixth and eighth races will remain on the turf as carded.

Miesque's Approval continued his march towards a potential berth in the Breeders' Cup Mile with a game half-length victory over Hotstufanthensome in Saturday's Grade 3, $150,000 at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J.

Miesque's Approval, a 7-year-old homebred owned by Live Oak Plantation, posted his third straight win and fourth in five starts this season. Trained by Marty Wolfson, Miesque's Approval was coming off victories in the Maker's Mark Mile and Firecracker Breeders' Cup, both Grade 2.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - When she won the first two races of her career, Vacare got buried behind horses before whipping past rivals with a ferocious sustained run. An Arlington fan had to check his program twice when the bay horse with the number "7," Vacare's number, was up and on the early pace in Saturday's Pucker Up Stakes. A new spot for Vacare at the beginning of the race, but a familiar position at the end - four lengths in front. Vacare easily won the Grade 3, $200,000 , and will end the Arlington meet where she began her career with a 3-for-3 record.

Gouldings Green may have earned a berth in the Breeders' Cup Classic after launching a torrid run down the center of the Polytrack to win the on Saturday in Florence, Ky.

Trainer Tony Reinstedler said he was unsure what race, if any, might serve as a prep for the Nov. 4 Classic at his home track, Churchill Downs, but he was very impressed by the effort his latest stable star gave in capturing the Grade 3, $100,000 Fall Championship by a half-length over It's No Joke.

Jockey Stephanie Judkins was scheduled to be released from the hospital Saturday after being injured in a spill during the fifth race at Louisiana Downs on Friday.

Judkins was aboard Power Jeans, who stumbled badly after the start, catapulting Judkins into the air. Judkins was placed on a backboard and taken to nearby Willis Knighton Medical Center, where she was found to have two broken ribs. Judkins has ridden 2 winners from 44 mounts at the meet.
