Strike Softly best in Jammed Lovely

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Jockey Todd Kabel won the $151,200 Jammed Lovely Stakes for the third consecutive year aboard Strike Softly Sunday at Woodbine.

Strike Softly rated kindly about three lengths off the lead on the backstretch, as Sugar Swirl set splits of :22.80 and :45.86 in the seven-furlong dash.

This Snow Is Cold takes MBNA

This Snow Is Cold jumped out to the lead at the start and held her advantage throughout for a nose win over Wrs Special Shoe in the Grade 1, $301,500 for Quarter Horses at Lone Star Park on Saturday night. It was a head back in third to Lds Dash for Dylan, and another neck back in fourth to favorite DM Shicago.

The MBNA was the richest of four Grade 1 races on an all-stakes card for Quarter Horses. The program was worth more than $1 million.

Majestic Stream triumphs in Veterans

Majestic Stream took advantage of his rail post and led throughout for a nine and a quarter length win over 2-5 favorite Mr. Trieste in the $66,000 Veterans Stakes at Zia Park on Sunday. It was another neck back in third to Don't Strike Out.

Majestic Stream ($25.40) got an opening half-mile in 50.80 seconds, and remained in control of the race through six furlongs in 1:15.60. He proceeded to cover the mile and a sixteenth in 1:47.80.

D Fine Okie continues stakes roll

Trainer Donnie Von Hemel continued his stakes roll at Remington Park on Saturday night, when he sent out D Fine Okie to a two-length win over 4-5 favorite Plaid in the $75,000 Lady's Secret. It was third straight stakes win at the meet for Von Hemel, and his eighth at the track in the last six weeks.

Howaboutrightnow dug in bravely in deep stretch to prevail over Silver Highlight in the $187,300 Maple Leaf Stakes at Woodbine on Saturday.

Howaboutrightnow set moderate fractions under Emma-Jayne Wilson in the 1 1/4-mile race, with Foamy Water pressing her. Silver Highlight circled wide into contention on the far turn and put her head in front inside the sixteenth pole, but Howaboutrightnow came back on and won by a nose in a time of 2:07.66.

Mini Mon romps

Mini Mom ($2.60) took the lead entering the final turn and drew off to an easy 12 1/2-length score over stablemate Reapingtherewards in Saturday's $50,000 Glacial Princess Stakes for 2-year-old Ohio-bred fillies at Beulah Park.

Irwin Rosendo rode Mini Mom, who covered one mile in 1:42.41 over a sloppy track. Reapingtherewards finished 2 3/4 lengths clear of Triple A Double U, who held third after setting the pace.

Tim Hamm trains Mini Mom, who earned her third career win and second stakes in the Glacial Princess and sent her earnings to more than $99,000 in eight starts.

Much as in his first start following a five-month layoff, Sweetnorthernsaint didn't have to work very hard to overwhelm token opposition in Saturday's $51,233 Odessa Stakes at Delaware Park.

Facing just two opponents after four horses were scratched, Sweetnorthernsaint ($2.40) cruised to an 8 1/4-length victory over Master of Disaster, covering 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:43.04.
