Indyanne dominates Debutante

Indyanne ($2.10) romped to a six-length victory in the $63,600 Bay Meadows Debutante.

The 2-year-old filly defeated stablemate This Side Up, covering six furlongs in 1:10.41.

Indyanne easily outsped Kooky Kelly down the backstretch with jockey David Lopez sitting still as Kooky Kelly was being hustled. Silmaril's late kick nets upset

Ginger Punch win raises big question

ELMONT, N.Y. - Ginger Punch posted a third straight stakes victory Saturday in the $285,000 Ruffian Handicap for fillies and mares at Belmont Park.

The consistent 4-year-old won her second straight Grade 1 to emerge as a leader in the division. However, she is not eligible to the Breeders' Cup and would require a $180,000 supplement to run in the Distaff.

Each win makes an increasingly compelling argument for the Stronach Stables to pony up the fee.

Ellis Park averages show decline

Business trends were down at the 46-day meet that ended Monday at Ellis Park, although gross totals reflected increases because of a higher number of programs offered.

All-sources handle at Ellis totaled $95 million, according to figures released Thursday by the Henderson, Ky., track, which surpassed the $88 million wagered last year. Only 36 cards were run at the 2006 meet, however, meaning average daily handle at the 2007 meet was down 16 percent, from $2.44 million to $2.06 million.
