Beulah Park on Monday canceled its racing program for Tuesday because of poor track conditions. It was the eighth straight card and 15th full or partial card canceled at Beulah during its winter/spring meeting.

NYRA 'colors man' Louis Olah dies at 79

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Louis Olah, literally and figuratively the most colorful man in the New York jockey colony, died Saturday night from complications caused by a staph infection. He was 79.

Olah was the "colors man" for the New York Racing Association, in charge of organizing and distributing the owners' silks to the riders for each race at Aqueduct, Belmont, and Saratoga. He had worked in the jocks' room since 1967. Before that, Olah was a jockey, recently telling the New York Times that he won approximately 190 races, including the 1947 Interborough Handicap aboard Tavstock.

Turf Paradise: Nationhood prevails

Nationhood was unable to handle Trail This when he was fourth behind him in the Jan. 5 Swift Stakes at Turf Paradise, but a couple months worth of freshening got the 6-year-old Nationhood back on track, as he got his revenge with an easy win in the $32,700 Coyote Handicap in Phoenix.

Gulfstream: Spring Waltz steps up

HALLANDALE BEACH, FLA. - Spring Waltz made the jump from allowance ranks to graded stakes company without breaking a sweat, rallying from off the pace to a 3 1/2-length victory in the Grade 2, $200,000 Rampart Handicap at Gulfstream Park.

Spring Waltz, a 5-year-old daughter of Silver Charm, had won each of her last three starts against optional claiming and allowance company, including a 13-length victory in her Gulfstream debut on Feb. 17.

Littlemiss Allison stays perfect

Littlemiss Allison remained undefeated in five starts when she stalked and pounced her way to a 1 3/4-length win over Timely Reflection in the $50,000 Sam Houston Oaks at Sam Houston Race Park. Littlemiss Allison came into the race off three consecutive stakes wins at Northlands Park in Edmonton.

Paul Nolan ($10.40) rode the winner, who covered the mile over a fast track in 1:39.19.

Jonesboro cruises in Razorback

Jonesboro gave every indication he was sitting on a big race leading up to the Grade 3, $150,000 Razorback Breeders' Cup at Oaklawn Park, and he delivered on Saturday when he coasted to a 2 1/4-length win before an ontrack crowd of 17,052.

Gouldings Green finished second, 2 1/4 lengths ahead of Going Ballistic.

Zanjero, the 118-pound highweight, and Spotsgone, who in his last start won the $100,000 Essex Handicap locally, were both scratched.

Nashoba's Key shows her class in Santa Margarita

Sunday’s Grade 1 Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap at Santa Anita was supposed to be a summit between top-class Nashoba's Key and unbeaten Zenyatta. But when Zenyatta scratched, Nashoba's Key dominated the proceedings in the meet's marquee event for older distaffers at 1 1/8 miles.

Ariege holds off Golden Doc A

Ariege was unable to beat Golden Doc A when they met on turf in the Blue Norther here Dec. 30. However, a couple more months of getting comfortable in her new surroundings after shipping in from Europe, more ground, and a move to Cushion Track helped Ariege turn the tables as she earned her first stakes win by taking Saturday’s Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks.

Hystericalady wins Azeri BC at Oaklawn

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Hystericalady established herself as a top contender for next month’s Grade 1, $500,000 Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn Park by taking down the local prep for the race, the Grade 3, $175,000 Azeri Breeders’ Cup, by 3 1/2 lengths Sunday. Brownie Points finished second, a length and a quarter in front of Clever Strike.

Autism Awareness pays $126 in El Camino Real

SAN MATEO, Calif. – Autism Awareness, the longest shot on the board, made a strong move in the stretch and pulled clear late to win the Grade 3, $150,000 El Camino Real Derby at Bay Meadows on Saturday. He paid $126 to win.

"What a Cinderella story," said owner Johnny Taboada, who purchased Autism Awareness at the CTBA Northern California sale in his hometown of Pleasanton in September of 2006 for $1,000. The colt was named for his 8-year-old son Renzo, who was diagnosed with autism at age 2.
