Pletcher eyes Travers for Harlem Rocker

ELMONT, N.Y. - Harlem Rocker, who remained undefeated on dirt with his victory in the Prince of Wales Stakes last Sunday, could make his next start in the $1 million Travers Stakes at Saratoga, trainer Todd Pletcher said Thursday.

"I would say it's a possibility; I haven't had a chance to speak with the Stronachs yet, but the spacing is good," Pletcher said, referring to owner Frank Stronach and his wife Frieda. "It would make the most sense."

Crowd up but handle down

DEL MAR, Calif. - Del Mar drew a record opening-day crowd of 43,459 on Wednesday, but showed a significant decline in all-sources handle, leading the track's president, Joe Harper, to question how the race meeting will fare in a tough economy.

Wednesday's program was the third consecutive year for a record crowd on opening day. Last year, the crowd reached 42,842. This year's ontrack audience was the second highest in track history, surpassed only by the 44,181 for the 1996 Pacific Classic.

Fast pace would help Standoff

Class drop key move for The Visualizer

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The Visualiser will be looking for his first win since 2006 when he drops into a first-level allowance race that has a $35,000 claiming option at Hastings Saturday. The 6 1/2-furlong feature for 3-year-olds and up drew seven horses and goes as the eighth race.

A 5-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway, The Visualiser has started only 13 times in his career. He was stakes-placed in the Grade 3 Canadian Derby in 2006 but he started only twice in 2007, finishing second and fifth in $50,000 optional sprints.
