Sand Cove wins third straight Woodbine stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Sand Cove ($4.60) notched his third consecutive Woodbine stakes on Sunday in the $125,800 Bunty Lawless.

Sand Cove established modest fractions under Richard Dos Ramos in the one-mile test for Ontario-sired runners. He began to draw off at the three-sixteenths pole, and prevailed by 3 1/4 lengths over Gone Trajectory. Knight’s Cause was a stalking third in the seven-horse field.

It was the fourth victory in the Bunty Lawless for trainer Roger Attfield, who teamed up with Dos Ramos to take Saturday’s Durham Cup Stakes with Palladio.

Hawthorne to bid for casino license

STICKNEY, Ill. – The owners of Hawthorne Race Course and other investors will submit a bid to the Illinois Gaming Board for an Illinois casino license this week, and the Chicago-area racetrack would commence a $500 million redevelopment project if awarded the license, Hawthorne president Tim Carey said Monday.

Top Emblem surprises in Bull Dog

FRESNO, Calif. - Top Emblem ($11.20) unveiled a new running style as he scored the first stakes victory of his career in winning the $64,000 Bull Dog Stakes at the Big Fresno Fair on Sunday.

Top Emblem, who faded to seventh in the Cal Cup Classic after sitting closest to the pace through six furlongs just seven days before, was last down the backstretch in the one-mile Bull Dog as trainer Ron Sticka changed tactics with the 4-year-old Old Topper gelding who usually shows speed. He had run second in an Aug. 16 Del Mar allowance race when he lagged early.

Casino Drive heads to Classic off allowance win

ARCADIA, Calif. - Casino Drive was pronounced ready for the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita on Oct. 25 after winning an allowance race in his synthetic track debut on Sunday.

Casino Drive ($2.80) finished three-quarters of a length in front of Dakota Phone after leading by a length with a furlong remaining. Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Casino Drive ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.14.

Cowboy Cal placed first in Bryan Station

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Cowboy Cal lost a tight photo but won the inquiry when awarded victory Sunday following a prolonged duel in the Grade 3, $150,000 Bryan Station Stakes at Keeneland.

Seaspeak, a 12-1 shot under Kent Desormeaux, outnodded Cowboy Cal by a head, but the Keeneland stewards judged Seaspeak to be guilty of interference after the two horses bumped during a fierce stretch drive.

Zada Belle draws clear

The drop from graded stakes company was all Zada Belle needed to regain her best form.

Facing softer competition after chasing Indian Blessing in the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom last time out, Zada Belle ($2.80) outdueled Shananie's Song and pulled away to a 1 1/2-length victory in Saturday night's $65,000 Seton Hall University Stakes at the Meadowlands.

Ridden by Stewart Elliott for trainer Saeed bin Suroor, Zada Belle won for the fifth time in eight lifetime starts while covering six furlongs in 1:09.12.

Eddie C. captures first stakes of long career

Eddie C., enjoying his best season at age 6, collected his first stakes win in Saturday night's $100,000 Wild and Wonderful West Virginia at Charles Town.

Still eligible for his first allowance condition when the season began, Eddie C. ($9) is now 6 for 11 this year for Maryland-based trainer Chris Grove after defeating Anthony J. by three lengths in the seven-furlong Wild and Wonderful West Virginia. He ran the distance in 1:24.60 for jockey J.D. Acosta.

Tasha's Miracle hangs on in Ramser

ARCADIA, Calif. - Tasha's Miracle caught stablemate Dawn Before Dawn and held off a late run from Gorgeous Goose to win the second stakes of her career in Saturday's $106,100 Harold Ramser Handicap at Santa Anita.

Tasha's Miracle ($4.60) ran a mile on turf in 1:34.83, finishing a nose in front of Gorgeous Goose, who rallied on the rail. Dawn Before Dawn finished third in the field of five 3-year-old fillies.
