ARCADIA, Calif. – Ce Ce, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, has resumed a semi-regular work pattern at Santa Anita while trainer Michael McCarthy and owner-breeder Bo Hirsch consider a comeback target for the 5-year-old.

“She came out of the race breathing fire,” McCarthy said. “She’s doing super, we’ll keep all our options open.”

Ce Ce is working approximately once every 10 days, including a half-mile drill Dec. 4. Upcoming options for Ce Ce include the seven-furlong, Grade 2, $200,000 Inside Information on Jan. 29 at Gulfstream Park.

ARCADIA, Calif. – United, the veteran Grade 2 winner scratched from the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Del Mar due to a suspensory injury, will return to campaign next year at age 7, trainer Richard Mandella said this week at Santa Anita.

“He injured a suspensory, but he didn’t tear it, he just strained it,” Mandella said. “He’ll get a couple months off, and we’ll start him back, but he’ll be back.”

Gerald Bennett became just the 14th trainer in North American racing history to win 4,000 races when D’craziness pulled clear to win the last race Wednesday at Tampa Bay Downs in Oldsmar, Fla.

“When you really stop and think about it for a minute, it’s a big accomplishment,” Bennett told Tampa publicity afterward. “A lot of dedication went into this.”

Trainer Peter Miller was fined $5,000 by Los Alamitos stewards on Sunday after one of his runners tested positive for the prohibited analgesic phenylbutazone during a workout at the San Luis Rey Downs training center in September.

The positive was found in a post-workout sample taken from Mr. Dougie Fresh, and was Miller’s third infraction for a prohibited drug substance in the last year.

Phenylbutazone, commonly known as bute, cannot be administered in advance of a race or workout following rule changes enacted by the California Horse Racing Board in 2020.

The Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity on Saturday will largely by a scrimmage between runners trained by Bob Baffert and Doug O’Neill.

The $300,000 Futurity, run at 1 1/16 miles, will have a small field. As of Wednesday morning, when entries were being compiled, there were five probable starters – Barossa and Messier trained by Baffert; Durante and Slow Down Andy trained by O’Neill; and Olympic Legend trained by Luis Mendez.

Olympic Legend was third in the Capote Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs at Los Alamitos in September in his most recent start.

Already a graded stakes winner on turf, California Angel will conclude her 2-year-old campaign with a dirt start Dec. 26 in the $100,000 Untapable Stakes at Fair Grounds.

George Leonard III, who trains California Angel for Chris Walsh, said Tuesday that the filly would return to the main track in the Untapable, a route race new this season to the Fair Grounds stakes schedule. California Angel has worked twice, on Nov. 27 and Dec. 6, since arriving in New Orleans, where Leonard is stabling 14 horses for the Fair Grounds meet.

Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Aloha West’s campaign adds a new dimension to the term “career year.”

The 4-year-old colt’s entire career has been compressed into calendar year 2021.

Aloha West’s season began in February at Oaklawn Park with a debut maiden win and, it turns out, ended Nov. 6 at Del Mar with the narrowest of victories in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.

Jockey Ken Tohill, who is riding at Oaklawn Park, is approaching a milestone of 4,000 Thoroughbred wins in North America. He had won 3,989 Thoroughbred wins through Tuesday and overall has won 4,051 races in his career, according to Daily Racing Form statistics.

Tohill has had 29,908 Thoroughbred mounts, and the horses have earned a collective $67 million. Tohill has won more than 200 stakes, according to Daily Racing Form records. He rode his first winner on June 26, 1979, at Pleasanton.

Greeley and Ben, who was claimed last meet at Oaklawn Park and now ranks as North America’s co-winningest horse of 2021, could return to Arkansas during the current meet, according to his trainer, Karl Broberg.

Greeley and Ben won nine straight races earlier this year, and in his most recent start Nov. 25 was second in the $150,000 Thanksgiving Classic at Fair Grounds. The horse’s next move is to be determined.

As great as last weekend was for Andrew McKeever, this one should be even better.

“I’m getting married,” McKeever said this week by phone from Louisiana, where he and Kathleen “Weenie” Aertker will be tying the knot Saturday.

No doubt there will be mention at the wedding celebration of Bullseye Beauty, whose victory in the $100,000 Holiday Inaugural over Tapeta last Saturday at Turfway Park kept the filly unbeaten in three starts over synthetic surfaces.
