Slew's Tizzy (center) set a 1 1/8-mile track record winning Saturday's Native Diver Handicap at Hollywood Park.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - The stallion Tiznow and dam Hepatica are cornering the market on track records at Hollywood Park.

Slew's Tizzy set a Cushion Track record for 1 1/8 miles Saturday when he won the Grade 3 Native Diver Handicap in 1:46.78, nine days after his full brother Slew's Tiznow set the track record for 1 1/16 miles winning the War Chant Stakes in 1:40.34.

Slew's Tizzy, 4, and Slew's Tiznow, 3, are trained by Doug O'Neill and owned by Joseph LaCombe, whose son Joseph Jr. commented: "It's so rare to have two really good ones in a row."

Florida set to implement tighter steroid rules

MIAMI - Florida is on the verge of implementing new rules to regulate the administration of anabolic steroids, according to Kent Stirling, executive director of the Florida Horseman's Benevolent and Protective Association.

Stirling expects the Florida Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering to release a hard copy of the new rule by Dec. 15, and to have it take effect at all three of the state's Thoroughbred racetracks - Calder, Gulfstream Park, and Tampa Bay Downs - on Dec. 30.

Meet wrapping up with juvenile stakes

ALBANY, Calif. - Two-year-olds will be in the spotlight during the final two weeks of the Golden Gate Fields fall meeting.

Fillies will be featured in Saturday's $75,000 Corte Madera Stakes, while colts will run in the $75,000 Gold Rush Stakes the following weekend. Both will be at one mile and will be preps for early 3-year-old stakes.

Jackpot 1-2 head to Florida

VINTON, La. - There is a chance that Big Drama and West Side Bernie, who finished one-two in Friday night's Grade 3, $750,000 Delta Jackpot at Delta Downs, could meet again this winter in Florida. While neither camp has laid out next-race plans, both horses traveled to the Miami area Saturday, with Big Drama settled in at Calder and West Side Bernie based just a little farther north at Palm Meadows Training Center.

Star of Navarone sets Zia track record

Star of Navarone indicated his intent to be a major player in the New Mexico handicap ranks this coming year by winning the $200,000 Distance Championship in track-record time at Zia Park on Sunday. The mile and an eighth race was the final stakes of the meet, which was to close Tuesday.

Star of Navarone ($8.60) covered the distance in 1:50.40 to lower the track mark of 1:51 that Tap Dancing Mauk set when he won the Distance Championship in 2007. Star of Navarone raced in seventh early, then closed well for a three-length win over One Lucky Buck.

Maiden Beacon Rock captures futurity

Beacon Rock ($12.60), a maiden making his third career start, won the $41,600 Os West Oregon Futurity on Sunday at Portland Meadows.

Beacon Rock, owned, trained, and bred by Nick Lowe, sat just behind Ex Tremely Cool through the first six furlongs of the one-mile race. He uncorked a strong kick in the lane to defeat Ex Tremely Cool by 3 3/4 lengths in 1:42.98. Odds-on favorite Chief Jafatica was a troubled fourth.

Beacon Rock, unplaced in his first two starts, earned $22,880 to lift his career earnings to $24,474.

Haynesfield picks up the slack

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Two days after their leading New York-bred juvenile, Trinity Magic, finished last in the Delta Jackpot, Haynesfield picked up the slack for the Steve Asmussen stable with an authoritative 5 1/4-length victory in Sunday's $83,375 Damon Runyon Stakes for statebred juveniles at Aqueduct.

Briecat goes to front and doesn't look back

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Longshot front-runner Briecat exploited the fast, speed-favoring surface Sunday at Hollywood Park, where she scored a $28.80 upset in the Grade 2 Bayakoa Handicap for fillies and mares.

The only 3-year-old in the field of seven, Briecat set a swift pace under Jon Court (46.01 seconds and 1:09.79) and won by 2 1/4 lengths over even-money favorite Model. Wake Up Maggie finished three lengths back in third.

Woodbine cancels final card due to cold

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The final card of the Woodbine meeting was canceled after the second race Sunday when the jockeys refused to ride because of the cold weather. The temperature was around 14 degrees Fahrenheit when card started, and there were gusting winds from the west.

Patrick Husbands swept the double, and was the meeting’s leading rider, with 166 wins, four more than Jim McAleney, who led the standings during most of the year.
