Theriot gets win No. 2,000

NEW ORLEANS - Jockey Jamie Theriot won his 2,000th career race early Saturday evening, piloting Alaina's Aurora to a front-running victory in the 13th race at Fair Grounds.

A native of Breaux Bridge, La., Theriot, 30, began riding in 1985. He topped the jockey standings at Fair Grounds during the 2007-2008 racing season at Fair Grounds.

Friesan Fire bounces back

Friesan Fire threw in a clunker, finishing third as the 2-5 favorite in a Dec. 3 allowance race comeback from a long layoff. But he looked like a different horse - like the horse that won the 2009 Louisiana Derby - winning the on Saturday at Fair Grounds.

Aqueduct pick 6 pays $190K

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Despite three winners paying 8-1 or higher, there were two winning tickets sold on Saturday's pick 6 at Aqueduct, each returning $190,629. One ticket was sold at the Saratoga Raceway, and the other was purchased through XpressBet.

There was a two-day carryover of $118,033 entering Saturday's card. A total of $474,321 was wagered into the pool on Saturday. The sequence of 2-8-2-7-4-10 included Rule by Night ($4.60), Indymine ($26), Four Star General ($15.20), Mr. Grievance ($3.80), Seniors Pride ($27.60), and Picnic Rock ($18).

Northern Station holds off Weathered at Laurel

Northern Station scores her first stakes win in Saturday's Nellie Morse Stakes at Laurel Park.

Northern Station ran her winning streak to three and won her first stakes race after a sustained stretch duel with Weathered in Saturday's at Laurel Park.

Weathered, the 3-5 favorite in a field of seven, went right to front in the one-mile stakes for fillies and mares, carving fractions of 23.99 seconds, 47.21, and 1:11.81 through the first three-quarters of a mile.

Wall Street Wonder all alone in Paumonok

Wall Street Wonder and jockey Channing hill broke on top and never looked back in Saturday's Paumonok Stakes at Aqueduct.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Wall Street Wonder beat Driven by Success at his own game, outfooting that rival for the early lead and rolling to an impressive 8 1/2-length victory in Saturday's at Aqueduct.

Mt. Glittermore got up for second, one length ahead of Shoptate, who rallied from last. Laysh Laysh Laysh, Driven by Success - the 3-5 favorite - and Peace Town completed the order of finish.

The victory was the second straight over the inner track for Wall Street Wonder, whose final time of 1:09.40 was the fastest six-furlong race of the meet, which began Dec. 2.

Racing resumes at Santa Anita after week of rain

ARCADIA, Calif. - Clearing skies and an absence of rain allowed Santa Anita to resume racing Saturday, the first time the track had been able to race since Jan. 17. Cards on Monday, Thursday, and Friday are were canceled because the main track, the synthetic surface Pro-Ride, failed to sufficiently drain.

Barker doing a lot with little

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - For the last five months, trainer Eddie Barker has proven that a little can indeed go a long way.

Though Barker has eight horses bedded down in Aqueduct's Barn 4, only four of those have raced since Aug. 24. From 22 starts, the quartet of Meese Rocks, Quiet Mover, Raging Meese, and Hazaam's Back have combined for 5 wins, 4 seconds, and 5 thirds during that span. At the inner-track meet, Barker has a record of 3-3-1 from 8 starters.
