Fox in the House goes the distance

PHOENIX - Fox in the House showed he's a true stayer Sunday, rallying to win Turf Paradise's traditional closing-day feature, the $27,750 Hasta La Vista Handicap.

Owned by Morazany LLC and trained by Wade Rarick, Fox in the House was coming off a victory in the 1 1/2-mile Turf Distance Finale here April 12. He had no problem with the added ground of Sunday's 1 7/8-mile race.

No Flies On Doodle takes Emerald stakes

AUBURN, Wash. - No Flies On Doodle raced to a mild upset Sunday in the $50,000 Hastings Handicap for fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.

The third choice in the wagering at 7-2, No Flies On Doodle defeated 3-5 favorite Hallelujah Trail by 1 3/4 lengths, running six furlongs on a fast track in a stakes-record 1:08.20. Clair Annette, front-running winner of the 2009 Hastings Handicap, was another length back in third, followed by Barbara's Love, Elusive Surprise and Puff Maddie in the field of six.

$947K pick-six carryover at Churchill

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - For the fifth time in seven years, the pick six failed to be hit on Kentucky Derby Day at Churchill Downs, leaving a huge carryover jackpot for the next day of live racing.

The pick-six carryover into Thursday stands at $947,641, meaning the pool could swell to well past $2 million once all bets are made by post time for the fourth race. Entries for a nine-race Thursday card were to be drawn Tuesday, with the $2-minimum pick six being held on races 4 through 9.

Cozi Rosie closes strong to win Senorita

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Cozi Rosie won Sunday's at Hollywood Park in a style that suggested she will be a factor in turf stakes for 3-year-old fillies in Southern California in coming months.

Winning her first stakes in her third try, Cozi Rosie rallied from sixth in a field of seven to win the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes by a length over Andina. Ridden by Mike Smith, Cozi Rosie ($9.20) ran a mile on turf in 1:35.11. City to City, the even-money favorite, finished third after leading in the final furlong.

Terranova sweeps New York Stallion Stakes

You had to have your head examined to go against the favorites in divisions of Sunday's New York Stallion Stakes at Belmont Park as Franny Freud and General Maximus, a pair of John Terranova-trained 3-year-olds by Freud, dominated the $100,000 races.

In the for fillies, Franny Freud dueled early with second choice So N So, put that rival away on her own courage turning for home, and widened to win by 7 3/4 lengths while eased up late by Garrett Gomez.

Hebert injured in Louisiana Downs spill

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Jockey Tracy Hebert suffered undetermined injuries when thrown from his mount at the start of Sunday's sixth race at Louisiana Downs. Hebert was aboard Goldspender who stumbled badly leaving the starting gate, tossing the veteran rider hard to the ground. It also appeared that Hebert was stepped on by Goldspender, who struggled briefly to regain his balance.

Hebert was conscious but complaining of chest pain, according to Louisiana Downs stewards. He was transported to nearby Willis Knighton Medical Center in Bossier City.

O'Connell, Ness tie for Tampa training title

OLDSMAR, Fla. - The training race at the 2009-2010 Tampa Bay Downs meeting came down to the final day, and both Kathleen O'Connell and Jamie Ness captured a race on the final program to wind up tied for the top spot with 51 victories each at the meeting.

O'Connell, who had a total of nine runners entered in seven races, won the sixth race with Lacy's Tune ($4.60), but Ness won with his only starter on the card, capturing the eighth with Friendly Selection ($12.40).

Gracie Jane pulls clear in Swihart Memorial

GRAND ISLE, Neb. - Gracie Jane got her biggest career win as she rallied clear in the stretch to score by 2 1/4 lengths in the $26,800 Al Swihart Memorial Stakes on Saturday evening at Fonner Park.

Gracie Jane settled off a hotly contested pace set by 8-5 favorite Miss Missile and local speedster Noble Bandit among others. With Jordan Olesiak riding, Gracie Jane challenged outside Noble Bandit into the far turn of the 6 1/2-furlong race and then dueled that rival into defeat through the final sixteenth of a mile to gain her first career stakes win for trainer Jim Cranwell.

Borrowing a page from Calvin Borel's playbook, Gerard Melancon saved ground throughout before rallying up the rail with Seeking Ms Shelley to capture the $50,000 Tellike Stakes on Saturday night at Evangeline Downs. Elle a Gent finished 4 1/2 lengths back in second, followed Flawless Gold, last year's winner of the Tellike.

Matz sweeps Will Rogers Downs stakes

Jockey Nena Matz swept both stakes at Will Rogers Downs near Tulsa on Saturday, when she guided Miranda Diane and Fifth Date to front-running wins in the slop.

Miranda Diane ($4.60) romped by 5 3/4 lengths in the $50,000 Wilma Mankiller, a race she also won last year. She covered six furlongs for fillies and mares in 1:09.73. Shane Seaton trains Miranda Diane for B&S Racing.
