Thats a Heckofacat was extremely impressive in winning the $50,000 Howard B. Noonan at Beulah Park. The 2008 Ohio champion 2-year-old was making his seasonal debut in the six-furlong Noonan.

Jockey John McKee kept Thats a Heckofacat just off the early pace and to the outside of pacesetting stablemate Almighty O. McKee shook the reigns in upper stretch and the Doug Cowans charge responded, drawing off to win by 2 1/4 lengths in ridden-out fashion.

Almighy O, also trained by Cowans, finished second under Dean Sarvis, a length in front of late running Tsunaami Stu in third.

Michigan horsemen to help fund meet

Michigan's Thoroughbred horsemen's group has approved the transfer of more than $170,000 from its overnight purse pool to fund 29 days of racing at Pinnacle Race Course during the state government's 2009-10 fiscal year that ends Sept. 30.

In March, the Thoroughbred racing season was reduced to three days by the state Gaming and Control Board, which said it was uanble to fund regulators at the track due to budget constraints.

Daytona training again after tendon injury

ARCADIA, Calif. - Daytona, a top turf horse in California in 2007 and 2008, has rejoined trainer Dan Hendricks's stable at Santa Anita with the hope that the 6-year-old gelding can return to racing in the second half of the year.

Daytona has won 8 of 18 starts and $991,690. He has not started since finishing 10th to Goldikova in the 2008 Breeders' Cup Mile at Santa Anita. Last May, Daytona was diagnosed with a tear in a tendon, Hendricks said. At the time, Daytona was being prepared for a comeback after being given a break during the winter of 2008-09.

Zenyatta wows them again at Oaklawn

Ridden by jockey Mike Smith, Zenyatta made her 16th win look easy, swooping from last to first to win the Grade 1 Apple Blossom.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Zenyatta established herself as one of racing's all-time greats in November, when she became the first female to win the $5 million , thrilling the ontrack crowd of 44,973.

With the performance, Zenyatta also matched the feat of Citation, Cigar, and Mister Frisky of winning 16 consecutive races while competing at the top level of the sport.

"I have to say, I really believe she's even better this year," said Mike Smith, Zenyatta's regular rider.
