Zenyatta's next stop could be the Zenyatta Stakes

DEL MAR, Calif. - Zenyatta may run in the Zenyatta Stakes in her next start.

A day after the wildly popular 6-year-old mare extended her unbeaten record to 18 races in Saturday’s $300,000 Clement Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar, trainer John Shirreffs hinted that Zenyatta will make her next start in Southern California in October.

Sand Cove leads from start to finish in Seagram Cup

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Sand Cove ($3.70) established a very slow pace and kept on going to take the Grade 3, $179,100 Seagram Cup Stakes at Woodbine Sunday.

With Richard Dos Ramos aboard, Sand Cove set fractions of 26.00, 50.38, and 1:13.76 in the 1 1/16-mile route while being pressed by Pool Play.

Sand Cove opened up a clear lead exiting the far turn and held off a closing Stunning Stag to win by a length. The winning time was 1:43.57.

Bridgmohan suspended seven days for careless riding

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Jockey Shaun Bridgmohan will begin serving a 7-day suspension on Monday for careless riding as a result of the much-talked-about non-disqualification from Friday's fifth race at Saratoga.

Bridgmohan is still permitted to get on horses in the morning, according to the stewards, enabling him to take his regular seat aboard reigning Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra for a workout Monday.

Tuscan Evening collapses, dies after workout at Del Mar

DEL MAR, Calif. - Tuscan Evening, the winner of six stakes for turf females this year and a leading contender for the Eclipse Award as outstanding turf female, died of an apparent internal injury after a workout at Del Mar on Sunday, according to a racing official.

Tuscan Evening collapsed while galloping out after a six-furlong workout on turf in 1:15.60. She was being prepared for an expected start in the $750,000 Beverly D Stakes at Arlington Park on Aug. 21.

Go Milan Go rebounds with Donna Reed victory

ALTOONA, Iowa - Go Milan Go ($5) returned to the winning form she showed earlier in the year, holding off the late charge of Tak a Joke to win the $85,000 Donna Reed at Prairie Meadows by 1 1/4 lengths.

The Donna Reed was among seven statebred stakes on a nine-race card Saturday, the final night of Thoroughbred racing at Prairie Meadows.

Go Milan Go set uncontested fractions of 23.84 and 47.76 seconds and had a five-length lead at the head of the stretch. She was all out inside the final furlong to outlast Tak a Joke. Go Milan Go finished a mile and 70 yards in 1:43.70.

Zenyatta runs her perfect record to 18 in Hirsch

DEL MAR, Calif. - Zenyatta extended her historic winning streak to 18 races in Saturday’s $300,000 Clement Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar.

Zenyatta’s neck victory in the Grade 1 Hirsch, her fourth win of the year, was not her flashiest win of the season, the fastest, or against the toughest competition, but she overcame a slow pace to run down pacesetter Rinterval.

Andiotis rolls in Westerner at Northlands

Andiotis came from off the pace to win the $50,000 Westerner Handicap at Northlands Park Saturday.

With Rico Walcott aboard, Andiotis was more than eight lengths behind during the early stages of the 1 1/16-mile race while Shem and Smile N Wave were carving out fractions of 24.20 seconds and 47.40. They were still dueling after six-furlongs in 1:12 when Andiotis was just starting to kick into gear. He made a strong move while going four-wide into the stretch and drew off to win by 4 1/2 lengths over Mr. Shadar.
